Dell Studio XPS 1640 review

Dell's fledgling Studio laptop series meets its established XPS series with slick results

Good screen ; Nice design ; Powerful performance

Heavy

A great performing laptop for it's price point with an unusual sized screen that definitely holds it's own against the MacBooks and Vaios for design

Best Yet!

Fast out of the Box, took the win7 beta, plus slam64 and ubuntu with minor adjustments. Handles virtual well and I am impressed at its agility under strain, the core is well designed and does not slag under preasure

Graphics card in limbo, cought in the "do I stay?" pure or hope for a good rogue but i dont game so no worries' for me

New Laptop

I like everything, smokin fast, lighted keyboard is great computer.,I ordered the standard display which is fine. All in all a great. Also was shipped earlier than the quoted time.Yeeha

Does run a little warm at/around the touchpad area but not as bad as described in other reviews.Doesn't bother me and keeps my lap warm when using it that way.I expected the 16" display to be a little bigger but I've gotten used to it and its fine now

Great Laptop

Excellent Laptop. Enjoy most features including the Dell Dock. Some of the upgrades are quite pricy, and the price dropped $100 in less than 1 month from the date I purchased it, but overall, very happy with it

Pretty big, not super portable, but i bought it more as a stay at home laptop, so I'm happy

Happy Customer

It's a very impressive looking laptop. Must get the blu-ray,16:9,RBG LED Screen to enjoy it's graphics and movie benefit (it's amazing). Love the backlit keys especially at night. The slot insert is nice as opposed to the traditional kick-out DVD tray....

I have the 9 cell battery and it still doesn't last that much longer than the 6 cell. I don't see where the speed is and that was the main reason for selecting this model. Start up and shut down is very slow

Love it!

I'm sure you already know that the battery doesn't last for more than two hours, but this isn't an issue for me. And as for fingerprints, I have a microfibre cloth that keeps it shiny. Again, you know that these are factors of this computer, don't turn...

It is a good solid laptop, doesn't feel cheap like some I'd looked at

None so far

Not what I was hoping for...

Sleek on the outside, garbage from within.

On paper, this machine is fast

I own the late xps 1530, it seems Dell has already come out with a new version. I had so many problems with my computer, I'll never buy another Dell as long as I live

Very Nice

The laptop did get a bit warm when I was stressing the CPU. Undervolting seems to take a lot off of that though. Undervolting simply means reducing the EXCESS voltage to the CPU. No performance difference, just less heat. RE the comment with only 2...

This is a very nice and responsive laptop. My order included

Does show finger prints

Very Happy With Purchase

Yes, it does get hot, but that's not a con, it's understandable because it is very powerful for a laptop This computer has 3 usb ports! Only, one of them is a usb/esata port. Reluctantly, I wasn't aware that there were solid state drives available. ...
