Dell XPS 11 Review: Flexible or Flailing?

A sleek laptop/tablet 2-in-1, the Dell XPS 11 provides solid connectivity and a generally good Windows experience in all modes, but suffers from a terrible keyboard and a bit too high a price.

Hinge design ; Good battery life ; Portable ; Sharp screen

Awful keyboard ; Shaky in tent and stand modes ; Runs hot ; Pricey

Dell XPS 11

The Dell XPS 11 is an attractive, flexible hybrid with solid performance, but the uncomfortable flat keyboard is a deal breaker.

Sleek versatile design; Comfortable soft-touch deck; Sharp QHD screen; Strong battery life; Solid performance

Flat keyboard is uncomfortable; Heavy as a tablet; Awkward power button placement

Although it's listed in the company's notebook section on its website, Dell considers the XPS 11 as more of a tablet-first hybrid. As a tablet, this system is on the heavy side, but it offers strong performance, long battery life and an exceptionally...

Dell XPS 11 (Fall 2013)

The new Dell XPS 11 hybrid shows that Dell is still capable of swinging for the fences, and putting out a laptop that looks and feels like a true premium product. The XPS 11 is an 11-inch superslim laptop, but it's also a hybrid that converts to tablet...

The Dell XPS 11 is a slim, light hybrid that looks and feels great, and offers decent performance and battery life.

The touch-style keyboard, lacking actual keys, is an experiment that just doesn't pan out.

Attempting to out-Yoga the Yoga, Dell's flip-screen XPS 11 has a great design, but isn't as practical as other hybrids for actually getting work done thanks to a frustrating keyboard.

Review: Dell XPS 11 Ultrabook A Mixed Bag

Dell's convertible Ultrabook serves all purposes well, but suffers from mediocre performance and battery life unbecoming of Haswell.

Disappointing touch keyboard and average screen ruin what could be a good laptop

A sensible selection of ports isn’t enough to win us over, though, as the Dell XPS 11 remains incredibly frustrating to use as a laptop and its mediocre screen hinders its use as a tablet. We do like the 360-degree hinge design, but Dell’s execution of...

Dell XPS 11

The keyboard will define this hybrid laptop for most users. Love it and the XPS 11 is a very attractive device. Loathe it and you won't want to go near it.

It doesn’t get much more mobile than this, which is even more impressive when you consider the 2560 x 1440 screen

The touch keyboard needs to be improved, as it often fails to register key presses

The XPS 11 is a love it or loathe it kind of device, based solely on the touch keyboard. We eventually got used to typing on it, but it was never as easy to use as a standard keyboard, or even the Surface keyboard for that matter. If your fingers can...

"Without Active Stylus support, not worth the compromise"

The XPS 11 was promoted since June to feature "an Active Stylus [that] lets you takes notes on this thin and lightweight tablet for pinpoint accuracy and better productivity". Unfortunately after several calls to Dell technical support, I was able to...

The carbon fiber and machined aluminum felt great. The 11 inch size and extraordinary light weight would be ideal for a truly portable combination laptop / tablet.

Without the promoted Active Stylus support, it is not worth the compromise of the cumbersome, no-travel / touch keyboard. As a result, it is a both a mediocre

"Woah what a neat duel device!"

In summary, I am jealous of this laptop/tablet, especially if I was versing it in a yoga moves competition.

It seems that the pros outweigh the cons.

The cons have no stance against this Dell XPS 11.

Elegant on the outside, unstable on the inside

Despite its MASSIVE shortcomings, I surprisingly still like the unit. A glutton for punishment, I guess, I just put up with the three-times-per-day reboots and occasional touch screen going dead. I'm an IT guy, and spend a LOT of my time remotely...

On the surface (pardon the pun) this ultrabook/tablet combo unit appears to be elegantly designed. Sleek lines and smooth carbon fiber panels. The screen is hideously-high-resolution for an 11" display. Windows "apps" like Kindle and Facebook appear...

Keyboard is nothing short of abysmal. I have had 10 desktops, 6 laptops, and probably 8-10 different tablets in my life. I have never yet had a keyboard that could even get near as bad as this unit possesses. It is a rubbery, zero-travel "touch board"...
