Dell XPS 12 (2013) Review

Dell has been manufacturing a number of ultrabooks and tablets over the past couple of years, with its hybrid tablet notebook announced, the XPS 12, this time last year. Several months passed since the Dell XPS 12 was first announced, […]

Review Update Dell XPS 12-9Q33 Convertible

All's well that's Haswell. The critically-acclaimed Dell XPS 12 r

Beautiful design; Solid and thoughtful construction; Excellent battery life; Very fast system performance; Capable integrated GPU; Bright and responsive multitouch display; Great keyboard; Spacious touchpad

Uncomfortable temperatures when stressed; Could use a third USB port

All of this adds up to one of the very best convertible Ultrabooks to date, and there really isn’t much out there in the way of true competition. Only the Sony Vaio Duo 13 comes to mind, which features a better screen and a lighter weight, but still...

Dell XPS 12 Review

Dell has managed to make a strong name for itself as far as Ultrabooks go and it is once again taking the lead in the Indian market with the swanky new XPS 12. The smallest in the series, the XPS 12 combines the same premium, high-quality craftsmanship...

You can switch to tablet mode by simply rotating the display within the bezel itself. There are latches that hold the screen in place when locked into position so that it doesn’t accidentally pop out when travelling. The mechanism is extremely smooth...

Review Dell XPS 12 Convertible

Windows 8 Hybrid. Windows 8 makes it possible: the convertibles,

Excellent sturdiness and build quality; Great IPS display; Good input devices; Long battery life; Very quiet in everyday use; Mini DisplayPort

Very expensive; Meager connectivity; Throttling (early BIOS); Modest speakers; Very thick and heavy in tablet mode

Many other manufacturers have announced convertibles like the XPS 12, and these are planned for release in the coming months. This includes the Asus Transformer Book and the Taichi, the Samsung Serie 5 Ultra Convertible and the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga.

Dell XPS 12 Ultrabook review: Haswell refresh adds performance

Dell's cleverly designed laptop/tablet improves with new CPUs. It runs faster and lasts longer, but is still premium priced.

Keyboard not exposed in tablet mode ; Outstanding battery life ; Includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapter

Heavy, especially when held in one hand ; Occasional delay in screen-orientation switch ; Only two USB ports

Dell's XPS 12 is better as a notebook than as a tablet, but it remains one of the best convertibles on the market.

Dell XPS 12 (2013) review

While most early attempts at a Windows 8 convertible used a traditional sliding or rotating design, Dell came up with a more interesting idea: What if the panel could flip inside its frame? This led to the XPS 12, an exceptionally crafted convertible...

Attractive and well built ; Flip hinge is quick and easy to use ; Good keyboard ; Bright 1080p, thin-bezel display ; Strong performance for the class ; Record-breaking battery life

Bulky when used as a tablet ; Weak speakers ; Pricing could be more competitive

The XPS 12’s new fourth-gen Core processor gives the boost it needs to shatter battery life records without compromising performance.

Dell XPS 12 review (2013)

Last fall marked a renaissance in laptop design. With Windows 8 on the horizon, manufacturers built truly exciting notebooks with high-res touch screens, clever back-flipping hinges, superb construction, and even displays on both sides. With touch...

Excellent 1080p touchscreen display ; Solid keyboard and audio quality ; Good battery life

Touchpad is still finnicky ; Few ports ; Cumbersome as a tablet

Finally, a real choice for Windows ultraportable buyers

Dell XPS 12

If you can get over the Dell XPS 12's screen acrobatics, this convertible ultrabook is a good way to get both tablet and laptop functionality in one unit.

Comfortable keyboard, trackpad, and touch screen. Improved battery life. Carbon fiber construction. Works like a clamshell laptop or as a touch screen tablet

Function keys require two presses. Heavy and bulky as a tablet. Limited port selection. No HDMI without an adapter

The Dell XPS 12 (29 DNCWI16B) ($1,199) convertible ultrabook is an update to a previously reviewed iteration with the same name. Now the system comes with Intel's fourth-generation Core i5 processor, which gives the user hours more computing time....

Dell XPS 12 Ultrabook

To give Dell credit, its rotating-screen laptop/tablet hybrid keeps getting a bit better with each generation. The basic design, a screen with a center horizontal hinge that can flip 180 degrees and fold down to form a tablet, first came to us in the...

The Dell XPS 12 is a slim rotating-screen hybrid with a high-res display and improved battery life.

The accelerometer can get confused when flipping the screen around and the fan gets very loud. It also lacks an SD card slot and HDMI output.

This updated version of Dell's XPS 12 hybrid adds newer CPUs for improved battery life, but still works better as a laptop than a tablet.

Dell XPS 12 (2013)

With a fourth-generation Intel processor and a higher-capacity battery, Dell's updated XPS 12 is an excellent 12-inch tablet-laptop hybrid that can go the distance.

Innovative flip-screen design; More than 9 hours of battery life; Beautiful high-res display; Strong performance

No SD Card slot; Heavy for a tablet

With its innovative flip hinge, full-HD touch screen, and svelte and sturdy design, the Dell XPS 12 was already one of the best Windows 8 laptop-tablet hybrids. But thanks to a fourth-generation Intel Core processor and a higher-capacity battery, you...
