Gateway M520 review: Gateway M520

Gateway M520X Plus Editors' note: In early September 2005, Gateway changed the names of many of its laptops . Read our explanation to learn how to make sense of the new names and where to find CNET's reviews of Gateway laptops. (10/6/05) Weighing 7.5...

Good performance; good value for the money; wide-screen display; six-in-one card reader; multiformat DVD burner; plain but sturdy design; strong documentation and support.

Mediocre software package.

The Gateway M520X Plus lacks flash but offers good performance and features for a fair price.

Gateway M520S

The M520S really is a disappointing system. Gateway is trying to brand the system as a multimedia powerhouse, but other than the processor, there really is nothing “multimedia” about it. The 15″ screen is small, there is no FireWire capabilities built...

Very affordable ; comes with 512MB of RAM

Poor multimedia performance ; spotty DVD Combo drive

Battery life on the M520S was pretty good for a system using a desktop class processor.

Gateway M520S

I paid for XP Pro and got XP home. The customer service is atrocious. Casing broken at hinges and the Display blinks. The system is slow. My liking for Gateway is History.

I use it for music downloads, internet browsing. It works pretty good for that. Gaming isn't all that great though.

Gateway M520S

After receiving the M520S+ as a gift less than 4 months ago the silver casing around the display hinges are already splitting apart. Customer support/Warranty service has been horrible! It is a heavy, overly bulky and for the most part slow machine. ...
