The screen is bright and crisp ; multiple apps run fast ; great to have numeric keypad
Of course it's heavy, and just fits in a standard briefcase ; not for airplane economy class ; plastic cover should be metal for durability

All the power of a high-end desktop, plus the work-anywhere freedom of a notebook. The new M680 Series boasts a cinematic 17" widescreen display and mind-blowing graphics - to satisfy DVD addicts and gamers alike. Add to that Intel Centrino Mobile Technology and a sleek industrial design, and the result is our most advanced notebook yet.

This wide-screen notebook is lightweight for its size and has great battery life, but few entertainment options.
Handsome black and silver case
Lacks quick-launch buttons
Not all big-screen laptops are party portables, and that includes Gateway's $2565 M680XL. It lacks entertainment chops, but it's a fast, totable 17-inch-screen desktop replacement with good battery life.

With high-end performance and graphics, the Gateway M680XL is a power user's dream come true, but it lacks both the security that businesses demand and the multimedia goodies home users want.

Big, sharp, high resolution screen, Amazing battery life for a 17" notebook, Number pad and almost perfect keyboard, Very fast performance, Nice design
Glossy screen could be annoying to some, Small shift key, Gradually gets warm under heavy use., Possible BOIS problem associated with Speedstep clock cycling, No DVI port

The combination of the Pentium M processor and a 98-Wh battery (an extended-life battery that comes standard with this system) helped the M680XL's BatteryMark scores rocket to 5 hours 11 minutesa big improvement from the previous version, which...
Great battery life. Thinner and lighter than the previous generation. Good performance
No internal TV tuner. Will need a hard drive upgrade
Gateway makes several significant improvements with the M680XL. It's thinner and lighter than most systems with a 17-inch widescreen, and it has the best battery life in its class.

Another Fn-key combination turns the Intel Pro/Wireless 802.11a/b/g network adapter on and off. Oddly enough for such a high-end laptop, Gateway doesn't offer a Bluetooth wireless option for the M680XL -- nor, since we were just talking about...
