Consumer review (newegg.com)

Gateway NV79C47u NoteBook Intel Core i5 450M(2.40GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

Excellent deal for the price. Bought this laptop for my college which there is a recommended laptop for engineers (currently a computer engineer) that was more than double the price of this laptop (with university discount as well) with a crappier...

Powerful graphics card + 1 GB VRAM ; i5 Processor ; 4 GB DDR3 RAM (thinking about buying 8GB ram for this) ; HD+ 17.3" screen (16:9) HiDEF ; Function Keys that: turns off screen, disables touchpad, media control, wireless ; Flat Keyboard (somewhat...

Sound is a bit weak (driver is just a normal HiDEF driver) ; touchpad is annoying and difficult to use (recommend getting a mouse + using disable touchpad function which is like fn + f6) ; Microphone is weak and has static depending on your microphone...

Gateway NV79C47u notebook

Great price for what you are getting. Machine was recommended to me by several tech folks

Machine has pixel/sceen problems which can be temporarily fixed by doing a factory reboot/install. Please note this is a temporary fix

Great Value but terrible performance

I have owned other gateway products in the past and I have never experienced problems like this. The FX series was amazing. It is topo bad because this machine has great potential.

The price was amazing

There is something going on with this machine. I'm not sure if all NV79C47u's are affected or if I just ot a bed egg. I have had a few problems ; 1. Every single time the system fan kicks on I get a 2-4 second lag ; 2. Sometimes as I am typing the...

Great hardware with design flaws.

I really felt like giving the computer a 3/5 because of how many casing problems it faced but with how good of a value the laptop is, its something I can deal with. The laptop should be able to stand on its own without facing these problems and the...

This laptop when i purchased it was a great value. Hard to come by a 17" laptop with a dedicated 1GB graphics card for $750. Works well for basic processing and has the power to run low-med graphics range games on high quality and high graphics games...

Just out of the box the laptop is faced with some design flaws. In an effort to reduce on weight and size, the monitor half of the laptop is somewhat flimsy and slightly bends when opening and closing. Would be the first thing to break when dropped ;...

Good laptop overall

I'm not using the Touchpad anyway because I have a mouse and I would recommend a cooling fan to deal with the heat issue. It's still a decent notebook

best price for the specs

Touchpad has problems as others say ; Heat up quickly and will be really hot ; Too much floatware

Very Satisfied

I'm usually the guy that ends up spending twice my initial budget and regretting it. This time I found a upper mid range performance machine for half the price of the next significant jump up and I have none of the buyers remorse I usually do!!

Value, value, value ; As quick as any laptop I've ever used and didn't break the bank ; Design is fine and keyboard is great. Silent as heck

Wish blu-ray was standard on laptops these days but not a knock on this particular machine

If your looking to play games on a decently cheap laptop this is the one.

This laptop is exactly what you buy, Nothing more and nothing less. The graphics card and i5 processor are great. Its very hard to find a machine with similar specs at this price

Only thing ive noticed so far is the fingerprints on the screen and black of the laptop

Pretty Good!

Great deal for its price! You're getting an i5 processor and a mid tier graphics card for this sort of price? You'd have to pay at least $100+ more to get other laptops with a weaker graphics card. I can get most modern games with about 40-50 FPS on...

There are some cons about this notebook and maybe newegg ; 1. Screen is a finger print attractor ; 2. Maybe it was just my notebook, but I had A LOT of scratches on the metal strip of the keyboard that contains the power button. Isn't this suppose to...

Newegg is the best

Newegg shipped out immediately. I purchased this notebook for my wife and we both like it very much. It was all it was said to be and more, working perfectly after the required start up charging. The graphics are phenomenal (hot video card w/1gb vram)...

Gateway should send a software disc for those just in case moments. It could be even better if it had a 7200 rpm hard drive. Still it is a fast machine with the 5400 rpm
