Awesome machine for low-end price

Glossy areas can be fingerprint magnet. This machine does not get that hot, no more than any other Core2 lappy you can play with in a store. Don't block the air intake on the bottom (duh). Display slightly washed out when viewed off-angle. Speaker...

Decent battery life (about 3hrs heavy YouTube), quality build in keyboard/scroll pad, decent looks. Great CPU power, video not too bad, is similar to nVidia FX5500 using quick glxgears benchmark. Dumped Vista for WinXP Pro - everything works except for...

Vista. Rarely connected to my wireless network even with SSID broadcasting, even after installing all available updates. Also, can't buy this lappy without Windows installed to avoid M$ tax

Cheap and fast. Just as all other name brand laptops, it comes with several pre-installed programs that you'd never use. After unstalling those, it runs like a champ. It even boots up pretty fast with Vista. Keyboard is quiet, and the touch pad works...

too much useless pre-installed softwares

Decent Laptop

For those having trouble installing xp the drivers are found on the Gateway website (surprisingly) including the sata drivers to slipstream into xp. Here is the link: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn¶m=T-6345u

Compact & lightweight design ; Screen is bright and colors are crisp and clear ; Comes with (1) 2gb stick instead of (2) 1gb sticks

No firewire port ; Left "Ctrl" key is switch with the "FN" key which is really annoying but I will adjust to it

Good bet for a cheap 14" Laptop

There is a lot of misinformation regarding this models memory capacity, What and why. This is what I found out with some Google detective work: According to Gateway, this model uses the GL960 Express Chipset, a cheaper member of the 965 family(unlike...

Cheap, snappy, Small, and stylish. More Classy than the standard "cheapest laptop". My unit was quiet and pleasantly warm -not hot. Your finger glides over the touchpad surface, unlike the cheaper compaqs and hps. I personally like the keyboard, with...

The speakers sound as if they took my grandfather's old pocket AM radio, shrunk it down, and placed 2 of them in the unit ; (Reflections in) the glossy border around the screen can be distracting

Great buy for the price.

Others have indicated this does not support 4GB, that is wrong, it supports 4GB on the 64bit versions of WinXP, Win Vista and Windows 7. I installed both Windows XP and found all drivers, as well as Windows 7 with no issues. Others have also mentioned...

Battery life 3 1/2 hours for Typing and Surfing the Web, 2 hours life if using the DVD or Hard Drive continuously. Supports 4GB in a 64 Bit OS. Stylish, sturdy. Installed Windows 7 on it, works fast. This is a very fast laptop

No webcam built in. The speakers are terrible. The simulated surround sound drove me crazy, had to disable one of the speakers which made the sound acceptable

XP Install, Memory Issue

People installing XP need to download the Sata drivers, and have a external floppy drive to install at the F6 drive option at install. I have it loaded with Windows 7 RC, and didn't even have to load a driver at all, everything was found , and works...

1st of all, this is what it is, a inexpensive laptop that just plain works. Great spec's for what you pay for , and runs all OS's ( If you know what your doing )

Lack of support from Gateway, I'm hopeing for the bios update for more memory. I Own a computer shop , and have tried many combos of memory with this unit. Other than that it Sells , and works fine

First Rate for $400

I highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a good valued N draft wireless device to go with the new modern N draft Routers, I am running mine with a D-link DIR-625 with perfect results

Vista Premium, minimum fluff software, wireless, great display, fast with 2G of RAM. Battery life just fine. My wife uses this and we are running Office 2007 with no issues. Fast boot and Vista runs at a decent pace - hey, it's $400 shipped

Runs a little hot so it's not a true laptop

Average Laptop

Before buying this laptop for my sister I checked Crucial's and Kingston's websites to see how much memory this laptop supported and both listed 4GB. I ordered the laptop along with 4GB (2 x 2GB) of Gateway supported RAM. When I installed it, the...

Small size ; Small price ; Decent performance ; Only one memory slot used ; Runs Windows 7 like a champ

Gets pretty hot ; Molded plastic on the optical drive sometimes prevents the drive from closing ; Speakers are a bit weak (expected in this price range) ; Does not support 4GB of RAM (see Other Thoughts) ; Gateway's literally non-existent support for...

Nice Ubuntu box

Most everything works out of the box with the install ... compiz doesn't but is all that eye candy really necessary on a laptop?

price ... cost me $399 + free shipping. Pretty light for the size, slick multimedia keys, display is crisp, powernow for intel works on both cores independently

Comes with winblows. Took a little futzing around with the alsa drivers to get the headphone jack to work. Battery life is pretty measly in this day and age even with the scaled processor
