Gigabyte P35X v3 Notebook Review

Portable gaming monster. While ultra-slim, high-end laptops were still rare in 2013, there are now quite a few slim gaming machines. Gigabyte introduces the P35X v3, an extremely high-performance model based on the GeForce 980M.

Thin and relatively lightweight chassis, High-quality material impression, First-rate performance, Backlit keyboard, Hot-swap feature, Two mSATA SSDs, Matte 3K screen

Turbo Boost rarely enabled in 3D operation, CPU throttling in full load, Warm casing surfaces, High noise development, Unaesthetic display bezel, Lid falls over easily, Mediocre speakers

Hot and loud: These are the cons of the P35X v3. Gigabyte has not managed to cool the gaming hardware properly. Not really surprising since the chassis has a height of only 21 millimeters (~0.8 inches). That takes us to its biggest asset: There is...

Gigabyte P35X v3 Notebook Review: GTX 980M Gets Slim

Can Gigabyte fit true gaming performance into a 7/8”-slim notebook chassis? You do get a Core i7-4710HQ and GeForce GTX 980M, after all.

Supremely thin, light, and powerful by notebook gaming standards, every version of the P35X v3 contains the same powerful CPU and graphics solution as today’s top-model test unit

The test unit’s pricey 2880x1620 display seems a little gimmicky for the 15.6” market, with less brightness and contrast than might be expected at this price level. Also, the triple external display output can’t be used in Surround mode, as offered by...

A great gaming notebook with superb portability, the P35X v3 Pro begins to look like an even better value as we consider some of its lower-priced 1920x1080 panel options.

Gigabyte P35X v3

Nvidia deploys a monster mobile GPU inside Gigabyte's new gaming notebook

Ridiculously good gaming performance ; Decent processing speed ; Slim, sturdy exterior ; Reasonable keyboard

Poor battery life ; Screen bettered by other laptops ; Expensive compared to rivals

A sticker on the Gigabyte’s wrist-rest proudly proclaims that Dolby hardware powers the P35X’s pair of 1.5W speakers and single subwoofer. The audio kit is good: the subwoofer pumps up reasonable bass, and the high notes are punchy and full rather than...

Failed Laptop after Meticulous Care

My unit was purchased back in June 2015, and was holding up great (until this morning that is). The fact that i had such a great mobile gaming platform was awesome, and i was willing to look past the noise levels and the stuck pixels. But this morning...

- Slim form factor - 980M w/ 8GB of VRAM!!! - The ability to swap out the seldom used optical drive for a storage drive with the use of a clever tray.

- 980M is no longer being detected THE MAIN REASON I BOUGHT THIS LAPTOP, WAS FOR THE GPU. - Slim form factor lead to poor thermal properties, so in order to compensate the fans would kick on under any load. I knew this coming in, and as long as the...

Dead after 1 year

I loved this laptop - while it worked. For $2000+ I expect it to last more than 1 year. Since two of these went bad on me in just over 1 year, I cannot recommend this to anyone.

Great combination of power and portability. I can take this in the job when traveling and it looks professional, then game with it at night.

poor build quality. First one battery died in 2 weeks. Replacement lasted just over 1 year, and now appears to be toast.

Great while it lasted.....

Great price and excellent 3D graphics

I bought this unit on Oct.29, 2015 and it failed on Feb. 1, 2016. The unit no longer boots and just sits at the Gigabyte power-on screen and freezes there indefinitely. System failure after just 3 months of use is not a good track record. I'm still...

Too good to be true

Ran every game in ultra high mode. Very light weight and easy to move around with. This laptop was a pure dream until the video card burned out after 29 days.

Video card died after 29 days. Item was no longer in stock for returns. Nothing else near this performance available for the same price.

Great laptop for the price.

Wear good headphones if the fans bother you.

Runs fantastic so far with Windows 10, handles every game I throw at it with ease.

I guess the fans are a little loud but it doesn't bother me.
