Marginally improved. Not much has changed since the last Gigabyte P57X we reviewed. But with a newer Kaby Lake CPU, more RAM, and a greatly improved 4K display, is this perhaps the one to own?

powerful GPU performance; most games playable at 4K on high settings ; quick and responsive overall system performance ; improved 4K display ; manageable average temperatures ; useful system management software ; relatively portable for a 17.3-inch...

plastic casing (creaks on our review unit) ; poor touchpad buttons ; two particular hot spots and a warm keyboard under stress ; still relatively noisy, though improved slightly over the v6 ; battery life is markedly worse than before

Truthfully, not a lot has changed between the P57X v6 and the newer v7 we’re reviewing today. Both feature identical (plastic, yet relatively portable) cases, similar board layouts and internal components, the same port selection, and even the same GPU...

The latest gaming laptop from Gigabyte doesn't look like a particularly potent machine, but don't judge this notebook by its cover.

The Gigabyte P57X isn’t the flashiest gaming laptop, but it trades RGB lighting and silly design elements for good performance in several key departments.

It's easy to think of gaming laptops as ostentatious machines that prize looks above everything else – but this isn't the case here. The Gigabyte P57X is far more subtle than many of its gaming rivals.
