HP Compaq nc8430

The HP Compaq nc8430 offers all the tools to maximize productivity, including a big screen, powerful components, and security features.

Large screen size for enhanced productivity. Good graphics card for 3D-intensive apps. Extensive warranty. Performance scores topped the Lenovo T60 Widescreen's.

Pointing stick is not as good as a ThinkPad's—it requires one too many mouse clicks.

HP nc8430 with Core 2 Duo and X1600 Review (pics, specs)

The nc8430 is HP's business class high-powered 15.4" notebook, often popular for its solid build, gaming capability, and business class support through HP. It starts at a base price of $1,449 with a three year standard warranty, but you can purchase...

With 2GB of RAM, the computer rarely (if ever) has to use the HDDs virtual RAM. As I'm typing this review up, with only a few small applications running and a LOT of background applications silently working, I still have about 1400MB of unused RAM

Top notch build quality ; Fantastic performance ; Bright high quality screen ; Standard 3 year warranty ; Relatively cool operation ; Very respectable battery life ; Excellent keyboard layout

Expensive ; Annoying USB port placement ; Ugly keyboard font ; Long reach between the right and left click mouse buttons ; Very little literature

I called tech support just once as this computer comes with very little literature (which is not such a great thing). I wanted to know how to properly install memory on this computer. When I called I got ahold of someone to help me very quickly -- I...

With the nc8430 you get what you pay for. While it may cost a little more than some other dual core machines, it offers great performance across both desktop tasks and gaming, and has all the features you'd expect to find in a high-end business unit.

HP NC8430

The refurbisher of this product should have known better than to supply it with an inadequate AC adapter. Doesn't inspire confidence in their products or workmanship.

not bad for the price, even if it is a Compaq ; some signs of wear, but in reasonable shape

Shipped with an inadequate AC adapter. Unit requires 90W adapter and was shipped with a 65W. Adapter cuts out repeated from overheating and laptop has repeating pop-up warning to attach higher capacity adapter. Refurbisher wouldn't rectify, but Newegg...

only small inconveniences: I loaded Vista on it, it increased the boot up time by around 10-15s but that's a vista problem.
