HP Compaq CQ50-115NR review

Note: This review is part of our Back-to-School 2008 roundup , covering specific configurations of popular laptops that can be found in retail stores.

Attractive design; slimmer and lighter than competing systems.

Poor performance; lousy battery life; no media control keys; lacks an expansion card slot.

The entry-level Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR looks great, but you can get better performance and battery life for your money.

HP Compaq Presario CQ50-114AU

Good value laptop for home users

Easy to use, HDMI, relatively good all-round speed, stylish

No 802.11n, no expansion slot

For running office applications, and even for some light media encoding, this laptop is ideal. It's well-suited to home users who want a second computer, or even as a first computer for the kids.

Great deal.

For the price this computer is great; I bought it for my sister while she attends college. Plays movies, Open Office, relatively light weight, looks nice, browses internet ; I have not had a complaint yet... knock on wood

could be lighter, junk software -- had to spend time preping it for her, and would be nice if it had a higher resolution

HP=Huge Problems

Touchpad is responsive

My new HP Compaq laptop died suddenly, and I had to ship it back to HP for warranty repair where it has been sitting for over a month. Their customer support is terrible

Replacement of my old Desktop

1. This Video Card is a nVidia GeForce 8200M G. 2. Since I didnt want to risk overheating, I put 2 Playstation 2 game Cases underneath the back of the laptop on the right side (so it doesnt block the vent). It's like a laptop stand, I guess you could...

1. 2.0GHZ Dual Core CPU is fine for me, especially with a laptop. It will run enough games just fine ; 2. 2GB of RAM is a fair amount. I might upgrade to 4GB of Ram. CPU-Z says the RAM frequency is 333MHZ, if that helps anyone. :S ; 3. 160GB Hard Drive...

1. The Outside case is Very glossy black. It's a fingerprint magnet like none other ; 2. The Video Card failed on me twice the 2nd day I used it, but I lowered the settings from Quality to Performance, and I havent had an error since ; 3. The DVD...

Great Computer

Specs say it has b/g wireless card, but when I looked at the hardware description in windows it said the wireless card was a/g/n

Great price, was $500 when i got it, reasonably fast, easy to replace components, looks great

Just a few minor issues ; 1. Doesn't come with recovery discs, you have to make your own ; 2. Touchpad sucks, use a usb mouse instead ; 3. Bloatware

computer charger

The charger itself was the correct one and it works perfectly. I was also extremely happy that I received the charger in just two days!!

Great, simple piece that does the job.

I needed a new one of these after my cat chewed through the last one. Without it, my laptop is useless once the battery runs out.A little bit of wasabi powder on the cord and my cat won't munch on this one!

HP Compaq Presario CQ50; I'm One Very Lucky Dude!!

I like to write. I have a regular PC at home. I also have an old laptop that I purchased from my daughter's college friend a couple of years ago. Though I started using it right away, I didn't continue using it. Though a laptop is the direction ...

This has everything I want and need in a laptop.

Battery only lasts two and a half hours on full charge. Volume not loud enough.
