Affordable; updated and attractive design and good build quality; offers enough performance for basic home use; roomy display; comfortable keyboard; 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Very stiff mouse button is uncomfortable to use; single-core processor lags behind slightly pricier dual-core laptops; no Webcam; no media card reader; touch pad doesn't support multitouch gestures.

Compaq Presario CQ62-225nr

 

If you can accept a couple of missing features and a squeaky keyboard, the entry-level Compaq CQ62-225nr may win you over with its pleasing design, quiet operation, respectable performance, and decent battery life.

HP's new laptop design trickles down to this entry-level Compaq model. Quiet operation. Fair performance for the price. Respectable battery life.
