HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 Review

Does business-friendly have to mean boring? HP is hoping the answer to that is no, with the EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 promising the dependability of an enterprise notebook with some of the style borrowed from the company's consumer ultrabook range. It's...

Building a work-centric notebook used to be straightforward; now, though, users expect the style of their consumer brethren, as well as something that won’t weigh down the average briefcase or bag, yet without making concessions on performance and...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 (G4U67UT)

The rugged HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 ultrabook is equipped with a touch screen and trades physical connectivity for a slim and portable chassis. It's a good choice for a business that needs to buy new PCs for an entire staff.

Slim form factor. MIL-SPEC 810G rating. Touch screen. 802.11ac Wi-Fi

VGA and Ethernet connectivity is via dongle. Sealed battery. ForcePad is novel, but requires learning new touch gestures

HP's EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 (G4U67UT) ultrabook is the follow-up to the similarly named EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 we tested earlier this year. Priced at $1,719 (as tested), the new model downgrades some features for a lower price, but adds a very...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 review: An elegant yet robust ultrabook

HP's 14-inch EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 combines ultrabook elegance with MIL-STD 810G robustness. It has a great screen and performs well, but lacks integrated VGA and Ethernet ports. You'll pay a premium price too.

Thin and light ; MIL-STD rated ; Integrated mobile broadband ; Great screen ; Good performance

Expensive ; Lacks integrated VGA and Ethernet ports ; Vulnerable SIM card slot ; ForcePad takes some learning ; MicroSD rather than full-size SD card slot

HP's EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 looks every inch a business executive's ultrabook, while its MIL-STD 810G rating means it should stand up to the rigours of life on the road. The high-resolution 14-inch screen is a pleasure to use, and the integrated...

HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1

The HP Elitebook Folio 1040 business ultrabook features forward-looking tech, like a pressure-sensitive trackpad, and eliminates bulky features, like dual pointing sticks and built-in Ethernet. Demanding, highly mobile sales/executive power users...

Slim form factor. Anti-glare screen. MIL-SPEC 810G rating. Good solid-state drive (SSD) capacity. Bundles Windows 7 Pro, with Windows 8 Pro license

No touch screen. VGA and Ethernet on dongle. ForcePad is novel, but requires learning new touch gestures. SIM card slot is unprotected

The HP Elitebook Folio 1040 ($1,979, as tested) is a forward-looking business ultrabook that drops traditional hardware and the bulk that it entails. A pressure-sensitive ForcePad replaces the dual pointing devices of older systems, and thick ports...

HP EliteBook 1040 G1 Review

The Folio 1040 is HP's second-gen business Ultrabook which is thinner and lighter, faster and has more inbuild security features than its predecessor. Here's our take.

Excellent overall quality ; Good keyboard and innovative touchpad ; Extensive business security features ; Good battery life

Media card reader only reads Micro SD ; HD+ display could be more colorful

Review: HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 scores with snazzy trackpad

If you're in the market for a Windows 8 laptop, you're looking in the wrong place. The HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 can handle Windows 8, but the lack of a touchscreen and the steadfastly clamshell form factor beg for Windows 7. Fortunately, Windows 7...

It took me a day to get used to the ForcePad and several days before I started accessing all the features. Now that I've crossed the pad-pressure Rubicon, there's no turning back. This is a spectacular new way to work with a trackpad. And it works just...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 ultraportable laptop review

It's a 14-inch lightweight model based on the MacBook Air template, just 17 mm thick and weighing little over 1.5 kg. Like very few others, it is made almost entirely from real metal, using an Apple-like unibody aluminium construction. This seems to be...

Most ultraportables we test are dumbed-down MacBook Air clones with cheap construction and low-grade components. That's why it makes a particularly refreshing change to find a Windows laptop that not just matches but surpasses Apple's popular...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1

A rather nice business notebook with a range of security features from both Intel and HP. The items not immediately available on this unit are available via a dock, so you not end up taking extra weight out and about with you.

It is 33.5x23x1.4cm and weights 1554grams. This unit has USB3 ports although you would only know it by speed of transfer as they do not have the blue middle bar that normally denotes these ports. The screen is 14inches and has a 720P webcam set at the...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 Review
