HP G72-250us

The keyboard is exceedingly comfortable, with wide, flat keys that are comfortable and quiet. A number pad sits to the right of the keyboard, but despite having plenty of room, the G72-250us does not have a row of multimedia shortcut keys above the...

Great performance for the price. Strong battery life. Attractive design. Comfortable keyboard and touchpad. Lightweight for desktop replacement

Weak audio. No eSATA port. No Blu-ray drive

The HP G72-250us impresses with its new design and performance for the price, but tinny speakers on a big desktop replacement always ruin the fun.

It's huge, it's cheap, but is HP's low-end 17-inch laptop any good?

Huge screen ; Good resolution ; Excellent case design ; Capable internals

Not much power ; Super-heavy construction ; Invisible trackpad ; Odd keyboard layout

It's a very nice little package, and one we'd be proud to own for the price. We wouldn't actually tell anyone it was so cheap, of course. No. A screen this big and defined belongs in a much more expensive machine.

A stylish desktop replacement laptop that looks good and plays hard; top value too

The HP G72 has much to recommend it, though. It manages to offer what few budget desktop replacements can: decent performance and a good range of features, coupled with a stylish exterior, generous screen size and surprising battery life. At £447 exc...

Pretty Happy

I'm not a computer expert, but an average user. I shopped around and paid about $470 for it. It is a huge improvent over my last laptop. For the cost, it is a home run, so far.

Screen and speed

I have heard it over heats, but I have not seen that for myself

Great value, could use a few features.

I'll focus on the hardware aspects here. (The very first thing I did out of the box was wipe the disk clean and install a linux distribution, Ubuntu 10.10.)

Great price. Large, bright screen. Large keyboard with numeric pad. Core I3 processor and 4GB DDR3 is more than adequate for most jobs. 500GB HD

The trackpad is just horrid - get a mouse. No USB-3 or E-SATA ports. Chintzy speakers

Powerful laptop, just missing a few things

Its a very powerful laptop. I threw everything i had at it and cpu usage never went over 75%, most of the time it was below 35%, i couldn't believe it. I wish it came with a few more options but then it would cost more ;)

Very powerful i3 processor, 4GB ram, spacious keyboard, big vivid screen, webcam (although i don't use it) hdmi port. 3 USB 2.0 ports. Blu-ray drive/dvd-rw combo with lightscribe. 500gb hd. wireless N

Don't like the trackpad, I also wish it had a USB 3.0 port. Speakers aren't anything to brag about. Display isn't 1080

Not satisfied

I got this one as a gift from my uncle. For a month or so I was happy with this. I was satisfied with the big screen and its visual clarity. There was an electrical problem which caused the system randomly shutdown and I had to lose some of my data....

Big screen

Runs hot, random shutdown

HP G72-227WM

Overall, even though it just died on me, if I can't find a replacement hard drive that is cheaper than getting the actual computer again, I won't hesitate to get another one. It's one of the best computers I've own in a long time.

Relatively lightweight, good keyboard layout, ports have easy access. It's been very fast and easy to work with, and I use it every day for work. It's perfect for watching movies/TV on or split-screening documents and webpages while I'm working. I...

Every once in a while, the CPU gets a bit overtaxed, and I have to calm it down a bit. Lately, it's been running a bit hot, so I can't have it directly on my lap anymore, but that's just a minor annoyance. The hard drive did just die for no apparent...
