HP Compaq nc2400 review: HP Compaq nc2400

Very low starting price; includes key security features; has a large display for such a lightweight model; three-year warranty.

A bit heavier than comparable models; lacks a touch pad and a scroll button; fewer ports and connections than competitive models.

Though it lacks the latest components, the low-price HP Compaq nc2400 strikes an appealing balance between features and portability for basic mobile users.

Decent, exactly what I needed

ZOTAC IONITX-D-E 3xSeagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS 2TB CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W (cheapest name brand PSU I saw) Kingston 1GB DDR2 800 Running Ubuntu 9.10 with XBMC. XBMC+VDPAU works ok, but not perfectly unless you overclock. Using Gnome Mplayer...

Pretty cheap, small form factor, easy setup, low power consumption, lightning fast gigabit ethernet. BIOS supports easy overclocking and unlinked memory frequency

Only 3 SATA ports. Does not support port multipliers. The on board wireless is terrible. File transfers less than 1 MB/s. I ended up having to run an ethernet cable. Can't update the BIOS from Linux. The mini PCI slot does not support any devices...

Perfect for my build

Love the low power consumption. The case is nearly dead quiet. I might try one of these as a server for my home network.

Put this in a MI-100 250W case. 4GB RAM. No problems whatsoever, everything fit perfectly. Installed Ubuntu 9.10 without a hitch. It's reporting 37 watts at idle and the CPU says about 76 degrees at idle. Using it strictly for streaming audio and...

None, really. Might have been cheaper, but I plead the economy

Got this to replace an old dell that ran my Skype phone. In a Antec ISK 300-65 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel Mini-ITX Desktop Computer Case running on a 65w Power supply I figured I couldnt go wrong getting a media center as well for far less power...

Was a little choppy streaming media on Windows 7 RC, but seems to be much smoother running fully updated Vista, before and after I changed the Northbridge FSB to 667 to bring it up to a 2.0Ghz as recommended by others

Decent board, poor software

Tried to install a Super Talent mini pci-x SSD hd and it didn't work out because the GPU is located too close to the PCI-x to allow it. I understand there isn't a TON of real estate on a mini-itx form factor motherboard, but still a pain. Also,...

Nice package and form factor. Reasonably intuitive bios. Wake on USB seems to work great with my SIIG wireless keyboard and mouse

Mini PCIx slot is too close to GPU to allow any mini PCIx SSD upgrades

sweet deal

overclock possible as previously mentioned in revies, but unstable with win 7 32 bit

great for htpc, everything worked first time right out of the box

dont use inclused driver cd, it doesnt play nice with win7 32 bit

why aren't there more nettop options like this

for a second htpc i'd still consider this, but would look a lot harder at whether dual-core is worth it or if i can find a good silent cooling solution.

Nice, a little slow with win7 media center. But makes a great low power box. wish there was more competition when i bought it to bring the price down

cpu fan is louder than i hoped in the mini-box 350 case mounted to the back of my tv

Powerful HTPC for the price

Blazing fast decoding for 1080P movies with less than 20% load on the CPU. First time using linux, and I easily installed Ubuntu with Boxee and XBMC. Lovin it. Another great thing is the support for the board from forums ; On my install, I got 1080P...

Basically good, except for the NVIDIA part

NVIDIA can't write drivers. I stopped using NVIDIA products over 5 years ago on Windows platform because their drivers suck. I've been using Linux on ATI and Intel chips for a couple years without any major issues. With ATI/Intel, the video is detected...

MOST of the peripherals are detected and work out of the box with Windows 7 and Ubuntu Jaunty Linux. Feature set is nice with 2 DDR2 slots, DVI, etc., that are rare on this platform. Easily overclocks to 2GHz

Way over-priced. The whole reason for this board is the ION + 9400M graphics which don't work acceptably under Linux. Changing most any settings in the NVIDIA software won't hold past a logout and/or reboot. Saving them to X11 config borks your...
