Review HP Mini 2140 Netbook

Netbook with style. Following the Mini 2133 and the Mini 701, HP'

Attractive case; Robust aluminium chassis; Gigabit LAN, BT 2.0 available; ExpressCard 54 slot; Pleasant keyboard; Bright LED display; Low noise emission; Can reach good battery life

Minor flaws in build quality; No UMTS version available; Strongly reflecting display; Only 576 pixel vertically

Every 10" device also putting an emphasis on a dignified outer appearance, e.g. the new Asus Eee 1002HA, or the Samsung NC10. Rather not: the Acer Aspire One D150.

HP 2140 Mini-Note

Editors' note: The HP Mini 2140 has been replaced by a new model, the HP Mini 5101. Read the review here.

Solid metal construction; full ExpressCard/54 slot; big keyboard.

Odd resolution loses a few pixels; no mobile-broadband options (yet); awkward mouse button placement.

HP offers a premium version of its plastic Mini 1000 while keeping the price down, making the Mini 2140 the Netbook to beat.

HP's Business Netbook Dazzles With Dullness

Third time's a charm? HP tries yet again to crack the netbook market, and its third endeavor is its best entry yet.Using the Mini 2133 as a base design

ExpressCard and SD media reader slots. Amazing battery life. Exceptional design aesthetics. Loaded with features trickling down from higher-end laptops

Touchpad too far south; flush design means fingers keep slipping off the bottom. Side-mounted buttons still too awkward for extended use. More expensive than a netbook should be

HP Mini 2140 Review

The low-cost ultraportable notebook or "netbook" market might have exploded in 2008, but HP plans to take the top spot in 2009 with the all new Mini 2140. This business-grade netbook features a 10.1-inch screen, a remarkably large keyboard, a high...

Excellent build quality (BEST in class) ; Great keyboard (BEST in class) ; ExpressCard slot offers fantastic expansion possibilities ; Multiple configuration options

Base configuration has low-resolution screen ; Strange location for touchpad buttons ; Screen is too reflective due to second glossy protective layer

As it stands now, if you're willing to put up with the lower resolution screen the Mini 2140 is probably the best netbook on the market. However, if you're willing to wait for HP to offer a higher resolution screen later this year you will be even happier

HP Mini 2140

The HP Mini 2140 offers a larger screen and more advanced parts than its HP 2133 Mini-Note predecessor, while keeping the sexy design intact. But it's pricier than other netbooks—for now.

Edge-to-edge glass screen. Option for highest resolution on a 10-inch widescreen. Big battery option. Very good battery life from the three-cell battery. 92 percent keyboard. ExpressCard slot

Mouse buttons are adjacent to the touchpad

Performance and battery life test results updated 1/15, 11:30 a.m. PDT

Premium model features speedy hard drive Rugged design and aluminum frame

Awkwardly placed mouse buttons

The only major downer involves a limited capacity to accommodate external devices. The machine has a few handy ports such as an SDHC flash card reader, VGA-out, an ethernet jack and two USB ports. But the USB ports are located on either side of the...

HP Mini 2140

This affordable, business-class netbook offers long battery life, durability, and a first-rate keyboard.

Six-cell battery provides more than 7 hours runtime ; Spacious, comfortable keyboard ; Durable chassis ; Fast recharging times

Poorly placed mouse buttons ; 16:9 aspect ratio limits on-screen text ; Underside gets warm

To accommodate the spacious keyboard, HP kept the same touchpad and buttons as on the 2133 Mini-Note. At 2.3 x 1.1 inches, the Mini 2140's touchpad is very narrow, requiring more movement and backtracking than we would like. Also, HP retained the...

HP HP Mini 2140 Laptop Review

Awkwardly placed mouse buttons

The HP Mini 2140 netbook improves on the earlier Mini 2133, but it retains its predecessor's awkward mouse buttons.

As a business netbook, the HP Mini 2140 looks elegant, the HP Mini 2140 consists of brushed aluminium cover, it is durable than many other netbooks. The HP Mini 2140 sports a 10.1 inch LED backlit display with the resolution of 1024 x 576 pixels, which...

The HP Mini 2140 is good in many aspects, if you are looking for a netbook with good keyboard, the HP Mini 2140 is your choice; if you thinks the HP Mini 2133 is a netbook with high performance, the HP Mini 2140 will be a better choice for you.

HP Mini 2140

After a week of taking the HP Mini Note 2140 for a spin, I'd say HP has finally made a comeback in the fight for netbook market share (and HP doesn't even want to call the mini a netbook).
