HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx

Editors' note: This review is part of our 2010 retail laptop and desktop back-to-school roundup , covering specific fixed configurations of popular systems that can be found in retail stores.

Stylish design and thin body; fast Core i5 performance; strong battery life.

Lacks dedicated graphics; similarly priced laptops include Blu-ray.

HP's slick and powerful Pavilion dm4-1065dx offers great core performance, long battery life, and an eye-catching design at a very competitive price, making it a very attractive back-to-school laptop.

Really nice computer . . . . when it works

Bought and HP Pavillion laptop in Dec 2010. It worked great for 2 or 3 months (I really liked it) and then it developed an intermittent problem that prevents me from logging on. I never know when it will occur. The problem may continue for minutes or...

small, light, and powerful

extraordinarily poor service. HP does not stand behind this product

OK computer, but AWFUL service

Stay away from HP. Many better options that actually also offer excellent support.

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap

Touch pad is awful and sensitivity is poor. Bluetooth has major issues. Biggest problem BY FAR is calling tech support. Calls will go to Costa Rica, Philippines, India, etc. Reps are rude & just read off their computer. Assume all callers are idi

Never again will I buy HP anything

After waiting for this to ship from the HP factory in China I was eager to check this baby out. I have had some type of problem with all 3 of the other HP laptops but I guess I expected something to go wrong with a laptop computer. I was so mad at...

Above average on price, performance, style, screen looks, weight, features. This was the fourth laptop I have purchased direct from HP website

HP refused to fix, screen died 10 weeks after purchase.Hp contend that it must have been abused causing the screen to die. BS I know now that they have an issue with some of these screens, which causes it to crack.Check web it is a known issue

Probably one of the best mainstream laptops out there

After having my pentium powered HP for three years for basic everyday stuff and a desktop for heavy duty work, I decided that I needed a laptop to replace both of them. Let's get things straight, I really don't care about brands. What matters the most...

Very competitive price (I bought it for $679) ; Fast Intel i5 processor ; 500 GB hard disk 7200 rpm ; Aluminum body and Beautiful design ; very thin and light ; decent battery life (4 to 5 hrs) ; Led LCD ; Fingerprint reader

Touchpad is a little bit funky, takes time getting used to it ; no blu ray ; no bluetooth

Poor quality

Poor quality, worse customer relations from HP. STAY AWAY FROM HP

It's fast

Bought the dmv4 1065x in July 2010 for my college bound daughter. Screen has already cracked and even though it hasn't been dropped or exposed to temperature changes, HP refuses to cover the repair. Estimate to fix $460

Very Happy with my purchase.

Excellent purchase.

Light and fast

Poor audio quality

Consumer review by:

Very bad quality. USB port stop working in one month.

This is the worst laptop I have ever owned. I had owned several Dells, a Sony, a Toshba and a Lenovo. When the USB ports stop working, the service rep call it wear and tear and it is not covered under warrantee. They agreed it might be a loose wire but...

Small and light. I have chosen this computer because all the positive reviews

USB ports stop working in one month. Sleep mode doesnt work so computer will over heat while in the backpack. Service is the worst I have ever encountered. Long wait, drop calls and rude agents

As Advertised

Even though the dm4 has a 14" display, its lighweight allows you to one hand it at airport security lines, etc. The speed and decent recovery from hiberate along with a very responsive fingerprint scanner allows one to close the lid (in my case set to...

Speed (i7, 6 mb Ram), lightweight, decent recovery from hibernate

I would have prefered the 13.3" display (dm3t), but chose the 14" based on processor. Mouse takes a litle getting used to, but adjusting one line rather than 3 line at a time scroll helps smooth the scroling function

The most amazing laptop I've owned

Absolutely amazing, I picked it up for 600$, and it's the best money i've ever spent.

Battery Life (around 6.5 hours) ; Performance (4gb RAM and intel i5) ; Case (metal and hard plastic, very durable) ; Screen (14" is perfect for almost everything and nice resolution) ; Mouse Pad (Clickers are able to be used as the mouse pad aswell)

I've got no cons so far :D
