HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr

By Matthew Elliott (cnet.com)

Slick, modern design ; touch-sensitive controls look cool ; price is currently discounted at Best Buy ; includes HDMI and eSATA ports ; dual headphone jacks

Terrible battery life ; below average performance ; glossy keyboard and touch pad don't provide the best feel ; no FireWire, Bluetooth, or Draft N Wi-Fi

At its current discounted price, we'd be willing to overlook the HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr's below-average performance if the battery life wasn't so bad.

HP Pavilion dv5-1015nr

By Matthew Elliott (cnet.com)

Modern design, including HP's "frameless" display option ; touch-sensitive controls are convenient and attractive ; decent application performance ; HDMI and eSATA ports ; comes with remote control

Subpar battery life ; glossy keyboard and touch pad don't provide the best feel ; no Bluetooth

A Blu-ray drive highlights the feature-packed HP Pavilion dv5-1015nr, while subpar battery life prevents a higher rating for this 15-inch mainstream laptop.
