HP Spectre 13 Review: The MacBook for Windows users

If you've ever used a Windows PC and longed for the build a MacBook offers, your wait may be over. The HP Spectre 13-inch Ultrabook is a device unlike many never seen: sleek, sexy, and without a hint of compromise. While it absolutely looks the part,...

There are no two ways about it: HP tried to make a MacBook. The Spectre is like the illegitimate child of a MacBook Pro and MacBook Air which refused to teach their newborn the ways of OS X. If you’re a Windows user who quietly covets the build and...

HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook review: a good deal, but with trade-offs

There's lots to like about the Spectre 13 -- especially given the low price. For the money, you can expect an attractive design, bright display, fast performance and a generous warranty. But you should also prepare yourself for middling battery life...

Attractive design ; Fast performance ; Good specs for the money ; Bright display ; Generous warranty, Adobe Lightroom included gratis

Heavy for a 13-inch Ultrabook ; Middling battery life, especially considering the heft ; Trackpad needs a driver update ; Shallow keys have an occasionally "sticky" feel

It's easy for us to give the Spectre 13 a good review, but that's partly because the price is so reasonable. Were this priced in line with its peers, we'd have a harder time forgiving its flaky trackpad, sticky keyboard and relatively heavy weight. As...

HP Spectre 13 review: an exceedingly well-executed return to the basics

Think all trackpads are the same? Run your fingers over HP's new Control Zone.

Innovative Control Zone touchpad works great with Windows 8 ; Fabulous battery life ; Very good audio

Integrated graphics will be a showstopper for some ; Annoying fan ; 802.11ac Wi-Fi is a $20 option

The HP Spectre 13 nails the fundamentals, and its innovative trackpad works great with Windows 8.

HP Spectre 13 (2016) Review and Ratings

If you can live without a touch or high-res screen, HP's new Spectre is a superbly slim and capable Core i7 (not Core M!) laptop.

Spectacularly thin and light ; Surprisingly snappy keyboard ; USB-C plus two Thunderbolt 3 ports

No memory card slot ; Poor audio

After fully recharging the laptop, we set up the machine in power-save mode (as opposed to balanced or high-performance mode) and make a few other battery-conserving tweaks in preparation for our unplugged video rundown test. In this test, we loop a...

HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook

It looks fantastic, but sluggish performance is the real story with HP's latest ultrabook.

HP Spectre 13 Review and Ratings

It isn't the fastest 13.3-inch ultrabook, but the Spectre 13 is a sleek, solidly built contender with an innovative touch pad that reduces the need to swipe and tap its 1080p touch screen. Add nine-hour battery life, and it's a good value at $999.

Control Zone touch pad reduces need to poke screen ; High-quality, distinctively colored aluminum case ; Gorgeous 1080p display ; Quick recovery from sleep, hibernation ; Good battery life

Not the quickest multimedia machine ; Cramped palm rest ; Tactile distinction between touch-pad zones too subtle ; F functions are two-key combinations by default

As PC sales shrink and tablet sales increase, computer makers have been tinkering with hardware form factors to find the right combination to make their products relevant again. There are notebooks with detachable displays masquerading as tablets,...

HP Spectre

The sleek design of the HP Spectre is lightweight and has a chrome finish. Find out more in our review of the best laptops for business.

The design of the HP Spectre is lightweight and appealing

This device lacks an optical drive and has minimal RAM and storage space

Looks can be deceiving. While the HP Spectre is slim and attractive, the performance of this device may disappoint.

HP Spectre 13 review: this is the MacBook Air killer

Sleek, beautiful, powerful. The Spectre has (almost) everything

Superb design ; USB-C-ness ; So light

Only a Full HD display ; Feels slightly flimsy ; No backlit keyboard

HP Spectre 13 review: Supreme quality design - Pocket-lint

We still find a pricey but USB-less, memory card-less Windows laptop hard to swallow for £1300. But then we just take another look at that super design

Truly striking design and high-quality build, more power than you might expect, good screen

Loud fans kick in at the drop of a hat, limited connections, battery life worse than some rivals

Quality, quality, quality with a side order of shiny gold hot pants is the HP Spectre 13's way. Whereas other recent HP laptops have made a great impression with their price, this one wants to make its pure presence the appeal.
