HP Spectre x360 15-ap012dx Convertible Review

4K UHD update. The recently released Spectre x360 15 is available in FHD and UHD display options. Are those smaller pixels really worth the extra cost? We compare the two models to see what drawbacks and benefits one may have over the other.

identical maximum brightness levels as the FHD SKU ; slightly more accurate colors out-of-the-box ; very crisp texts and images ; very minimal uneven backlight bleeding

reduced battery life compared to FHD SKU ; lower contrast

Should you purchase the costlier 4K UHD SKU over the less expensive FHD SKU? The advantages are obvious including sharper texts and images for potentially better multi-tasking. We're also relieved to see no major reductions in backlight brightness due...

HP Spectre x360 15 ap011dx Convertible Review

15-inch convertible done right. Smaller convertibles like the Yoga 900 tend to work very well due to the lighter and more portable form factor. Scaling up to a 15-inch screen size has proven difficult, but HP is the first to hit it out of the park.

strong performance under stress; no major throttling, relatively bright, high quality touchscreen with deep contrast, thin and sleek design with strong build quality, lightweight for a 15-inch notebook, relatively easy maintenance, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen....

weak GPU performance; no dedicated GPU options, still on the heavy side even for a 15-inch tablet, only one level of keyboard backlight brightness, display backlight not powerful enough to overcome direct sunlight, no secondary storage options,...

Our experience with 15-inch convertibles has been a mixed bag up until the launch of the Spectre x360 15. Both the Toshiba Satellite Radius 15 and Lenovo ThinkPad S5 Yoga 15 had a few redeeming qualities, but case quality and weight dragged them down...

HP Spectre x360 15 review

The Spectre x360 15-inch is an outstanding laptop served with a side of 2-in-1 versatility.

Excellent keyboard ; Plethora of input options ; Solid connectivity ; Attractive pricing given the overall value

Display is good, but not quite great ; Unwieldly when used as a tablet

HP accomplished something special with the Spectre x360 15. It’s not an inexpensive machine, but it’s nevertheless a no-compromise option that will leave you convinced that you’ve made a great investment. In all its aspects, from performance to battery...

HP Spectre x360 15-inch (2017) Review

If you prefer a larger screen on your 2-in-1, the 15-inch HP Spectre x360 (starting at $1,279; $1,499 as reviewed) stands out from the pack. It's a sleek laptop in a beautiful gold-and-charcoal color scheme with a 4K screen and long battery life....

Vivid, 4K display; Higher-than-average battery life; Looks and feels premium; Great speakers

Runs hot; Uses last-generation GPU

With its colorful 4K display and premium design, the Spectre x360 is the 15-inch convertible to beat.

HP Spectre x360 15 (2017) review

HP deserves some props for the direction it's taken its consumer desktop and laptop designs over the past year or so. It's turned some relatively functional but cheap-looking products into sleek, engaging models that are as pleasant to look at as they...

Beautifully designed and with practically no missteps, the HP Spectre x360 15 has a great keyboard and trackpad, 4K display, above-average sound system with solid battery life and decent performance for the money.

It's not particularly lightweight.

It's hard to find a match for the HP Spectre x360 15's mix of features and performance for the money, and none of its competitors are nearly as pretty.

HP Spectre x360 15t (15-ap012dx)

The 4K HP Spectre x360 15t premium convertible-hybrid laptop is well designed and constructed and delivers very good performance. It's ideal for working at home, as well as watching movies at higher-than-HD resolution on the couch.

4K screen. Very slim. Good performance from Core i7 processor. 16GB of memory. 10 hours of battery life. Generous port selection includes HDMI and USB-C.

Bulky and awkward in Tablet mode.

Conclusion The HP Spectre x360 15t's 15.6-inch screen is large enough for working on spreadsheets and other large documents during the day, while its 4K UHD resolution is primed for movie night on your couch. That said, the multimode design feels more...

HP's 15-inch Spectre x360: Come for the screen, stay for the battery life

The Spectre x360 15t is a bigger version of the original x360 we reviewed last year. It brings the same well-constructed design as its smaller stablemate, along with a comfortable keyboard and a nearly bloatware-free Windows install. Because it's so...

Thin and light for a laptop this size ; 4K screen option on this 15-inch model ; Well-constructed ; Comfortable keyboard ; 10-plus hours of battery life ; Almost no bloatware ; Good sound quality

Touchpad can be a bit flaky ; No performance gains over the smaller version; discrete graphics not an option

The 15-inch Spectre x360 is a bigger, but not necessarily more powerful, version of the original that came out last year. The main benefit is extra screen real estate and, if your budget allows, the optional 4K resolution. Even at its best, though, the...

HP Spectre X360 15T review: It's sexy and thin, but comes with a performance cost

With its new Spectre X360 15T, HP is offering a different approach to the high-end, high-performance 15-inch laptop. This is a laptop, the company says, that's aimed at folks who want a sizable screen and reasonably great performance wrapped in a great...

Sexy, thin, and a tiny power brick ; Big screen with a dual-core price

Still very large footprint despite not having performance of competing laptops ; Dual-core gets smacked around by quad-core competitors

HP Spectre x360 15t Reviews

While most 2-in-1s have 13-inch or smaller screens, some like having a larger display that can bend back into presentation, tent or tablet modes. Among 15-inch consumer convertibles, the HP Spectre x360 15t stands out by offering a gorgeous aluminum...

HP Spectre x360 15 review: A large convertible that’s easy to love

Flexibility is usually left to smaller devices, but this one's up to the challenge.

Premium design. ; Sharp 4K display is great for video, and its 15-inch size is great for artwork. ; Windows Hello IR camera. ; Many USB C adapters included in the box. ; Strong overall performance.

Too heavy to be a good portable laptop. ; Pen needs AAAA battery to work. ; Gets hot after a few hours of use. ; Battery life could be better.
