HP TouchSmart TX2z

The HP TouchSmart TX2z's less-than-responsive multitouch features are a great gimmick, but the fan noise, a bloated software suite, and excessive heat are unacceptable for a laptop, let alone a tablet.

First Windows tablet with multitouch gestures. Various hard drive choices. Highly configurable. Very good keyboard.

Fan noises were unbearable. Bloated software suite. Base is uncomfortably warm. Multitouch gestures could use another driver update. Mouse buttons are poorly engineered. Too heavy for a 12-inch tablet.

HP TouchSmart tx2

A slightly underpowered CPU choice gimps an otherwise decent consumer tablet PC.

Functional multi-touch display ; Smart construction

Multi-touch works, but imperfect ; sluggish CPU

As far as Tablet PCs go, the HP TouchSmart tx2 gets enough right to warrant a look. This media-friendly tablet tries to take the TouchSmart desktop experience on the road, but at this point the size of the device and the software's limitations mean its...

Review: HP TouchSmart tx2z

HP has been tinkering with touch tech for a couple of years. But they have yet to nail the bull's eye with a machine that...

Fully baked as both a touch and tablet device. Travels well with its compact and stylish chassis. Includes quick keys for rotating screen orientation. Mini media remote and pen conveniently hide away in chassis. Altec Lansing speakers strike decent...

Bloated OS hinders performance of otherwise decent specs. Occasionally laggy switches between notebook and tablet mode. No multitouch love for the trackpad. Terrible viewing angles and weak visibility in direct sunlight. Fan sounds like a leaf-blower...

HP TouchSmart tx2 Review

We were also sad to see there is no FireWire or HDMI port on this notebook ... two ports that many consumers find very useful

The first affordable consumer notebook with a multi-touch screen ; Great design and build quality ; Fantastic keyboard and touchpad ; Solid overall performance ; Excellent integrated graphics performance

First-generation multi-touch screen doesn't always respond as it should the first time you touch it ; Bloatware makes it difficult to use the notebook during startup ; No Firewire, eSATA, or HDMI ; Doesn't have all the same applications as HP's...

After turning on the tx2 we discovered that if we attempted to start the MediaSmart application before all the bloatware finished loading the MediaSmart application would fail to open. Not only that, but we had to restart Windows in order to get the...

We're unabashed fans of HP's TouchSmart desktop machines, so we were really looking forward to getting our digits on the new technology in a tablet-style notebook PC. But such eager anticipation only made the reality of the TouchSmart tx2 all that more...

HP TouchSmart tx2 (1015AU)

HP's TouchSmart tx2 is its next-generation tablet PC, stuck in last generation's body.

Cheap for a tablet, Responsive stylus

Temperamental touch capability, Multi-touch is token only, Low battery life, No Bluetooth, Right-facing hot air vent, Noisy when under load, Tinny speakers, Greasy looking screen, Inlaid screen makes touch difficult in the corners, Tiny function keys

HP's latest incarnation of their tablet notebooks, the HP TouchSmart tx2 ditches the older Pavilion brand name in favor of the cooler sounding TouchSmart. But does it Touch Smartly?

HP TouchSmart tx2-1020ea review

Stylish, comfortable and well-equipped, but not the fastest machine

Touchscreen ; Good build quality

Hazy screen ; Small mouse buttons

A comfortable machine with some nice features to use but is a bit on the heavy side for one handed use

HP Touchsmart TX2-1015ea tablet PC

HP's Touchsmart TX2 is unusual among Tablet PCs in that it's intended for home use rather than corporate use. You'll find glossy patterned plastics more in-keeping with the company's Palivion range than its Compaq machines. The only question is, is...

Nice looking, excellent keyboard, well made, well-specified

Too heavy for comfortable tablet use, bulky, hazy screen

Anybody in the market for a ultra mobile laptop could do a lot worse than the Touchsmart TX2. It’s a comfortable and stylish machine, and it’s crammed with features.
