Huawei MateBook X Pro review: A polished yet quirky laptop

Huawei's fourth laptop looks like a MacBook Pro clone, but manages to add in features that make it better for pros on the go. A traditional USB A port and a 14-inch display in a 13-inch body are both big pluses, plus excellent audio that makes it a cut...

Well-engineered USB-A port is a welcome addition ; Beautiful 14-inch display in a 13-inch frame ; Good battery life

It’s expensive in Europe and may be pricey over here ; We still don’t know if and when it’ll actually arrive in the US ; Webcam placement will annoy some people ; Potential trackpad issues that we need to examine further

Because Huawei has been so reticent to talk about US pricing and availability, it's hard to offer definitive recommendations. After all, it may be hard to find over here and may be available only in limited quantities in Europe, making it an...

Huawei MateBook X Pro review

Odd webcam aside, the MateBook X Pro is a beautiful machine with a top-notch display.

Simple yet functional design ; Good keyboard, great touchpad ; Bright, high-contrast display ; Great speakers for the size ; Solid battery life

Weird webcam location ; MX150 performs behind similar competitors

Huawei Matebook X Pro review: A few cut corners diminish this otherwise great laptop's value

Average performance and battery life are the two knocks on the Huawei Matebook X Pro, but a great display, audio, discrete graphics and an included USB-C hub elevate it among the top thin-and-light contenders we've tested.

Competitive price, compared to premium ultrabooks ; Lovely 3K display that pumps out tons of light ; Included MateDock accommodates legacy devices

Power-limit throttling impedes performance ; Battery life is just average ; Huawei used Nvidia's lower-power MX150 discrete GPU

As a premium ultraportable, we compared the Huawei Matebook X Pro to several others in its class, among them two Dells (the XPS 13 and the New XPS 13) as well as the HP Spectre 13. Though the Matebook X Pro looks somewhat like the new , we haven't yet...

The best laptop you can buy right now

It's getting harder to buy a bad laptop, but what separates a good laptop from a great one is how it balances power, efficiency, portability, and comfort

Thin, light design ; Premium materials ; Great battery life

No SD card slot ; Uneven keyboard backlighting ; Screen wobbles when you touch it

The laptop lives on

Huawei MateBook X Pro

With a sleek aluminum body, ample computing power, and superb audio quality, in some ways, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is a better ultraportable than the Apple MacBook Pro that inspired it.

Superb audio quality. Comfortable, oversized touchpad. Thin, sleek design. Screen aspect ratio makes editing documents easier. USB-C and USB 3.0 ports.

Awkward webcam placement.

Bottom Line: With a sleek aluminum body, ample computing power, and superb audio quality, in some ways, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is a better ultraportable than the Apple MacBook Pro that inspired it.

Huawei MateBook X Pro (i7-8550U, MX150) Laptop Review

Performance increased by X. About half a year ago, the Pro version of the MateBook X gave us a good impression with its Intel Core i5-8250U. Today's review update will take a look at the Core i7-8550U version, which also features a GeForce MX150. Find...

nice design ; Thunderbolt 3 ; good battery runtimes ; high-contrast display ; MateDock 2 included

CPU performance on par with the i5-8250U ; GPU performance below average for an MX150 ; highly reflective screen ; meager port selection ; no maintenance options

The Huawei MateBook X Pro presents itself as a high-performance notebook with a smooth system and an intense color display. Compared to similarly equipped devices, we noticed that the CPU performance could not beat that of the cheaper Intel Core...

Huawei Matebook X Pro (i5-8250U, MX150) Laptop Review

Market disruptor. Huawei wants to prove that you don't need to spend $1500 or more for a decently specced XPS 13 or MacBook Pro. The MateBook X Pro attempts to give it all with an attractively thin aluminum design, 3:2 touchscreen, discrete Nvidia...

significantly more powerful CPU and GPU than the MateBook X ; >95 percent sRGB coverage; high contrast, accurate colors ; higher battery capacity; respectable battery life ; Full-lane Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.0 Type-A ; high quality chassis; rigid lid...

unable to sustain maximum CPU Turbo Boost for extended periods ; warmer, thicker, larger, and heavier than the MateBook X ; slower '1D12' variant of the GeForce MX150 ; very inaccurate grayscale out of the box ; keyboard feedback could be firmer ; no...

Huawei has been able to carve itself a significant slice of the smartphone market with its well-received smartphones and we're beginning to see this same level of quality and care on the second generation MateBook X. Instead of blindly going thinner...

Huawei MateBook X Pro Review

I couldn't help but make a comparison to a MacBook right out the box when I first opened the Huawei MateBook X Pro. This is a device that's taken some definite design cues from the MacBook Pro - the latest round of MacBook Pros, at least. It runs...

Unique webcam placement ; Thin, svelte industrial design ; Lightweight ; Dolby Atmos enhanced 4x speaker system ; USB-C power ports and great battery life

Price could be more competitive ; Camera placement needs some getting used to ; Keyboard isn't quite perfectly tight ; SD card slot not included
