Review Lenovo IdeaPad S400 Notebook

Virtually an ultrabook. Members of the slim and affordable IdeaPad S400 range are tempting to customers who are interested in an ultrabook, but do not want to pay the demanded price. Our test reveals whether Lenovo's 14-inch laptop is successful. ...

Thin, lightweight and handy ; 24 month warranty ; Always runs quietly ; Low consumption ; Good application performance

Fast Ethernet only ; Contrast-poor, dark screen ; Four GB RAM maximum ; Low-capacity battery (32Wh) - short battery life

The power consumption of Lenovo's IdeaPad S400 even undercuts a few ultrabooks

Lenovo IdeaPad S400

The Lenovo IdeaPad S400 offers Windows 8 bargain hunters a sleek, portable design with solid performance, but short battery life.

Attractive chassis; Very affordable; Comfortable keyboard; Solid performance and graphics

Very short battery life; Narrow viewing angles

Click to EnlargeFor a sub-$500 notebook, the Lenovo IdeaPad S400 delivers a great mix of speed, comfort and portability. For $455, you get a capable Core i3 processor in a very slim and light design. The keyboard and touchpad are also above average....

Good Value

It is very light and slim, like an ultrabook. At $400, you will not find anything near close to the weight and slimness of this one. Only complaint I have is the battery life.

Great for this price point!

I am an IT & Graphics Design professional. This laptop does everything I need it to do. It's not my 17" ASUS g74sx, which is a mobile powerhouse, but its not meant to be. It's purpose is for light use Web and Document editing. I added ram to 8GB and am...

Thin, lightweight, and for basic use it has plenty of power. The keyboard is sturdy, I've used some by Dell at this price and the keyboard seemed flimsy this one is much more sturdy. And battery life is good

The screen is good, but is the only reason I don't give it 5 eggs, if not looking straight on it looses color and contrast, so it's viewing angle is narrow

I bought this product off of the manufacturer's website(they had a sale for it) and I love it. I needed a new, everyday laptop and so far this is perfect. It is fast, the touch screen is really cool, and it is easy to use. It comes with Windows 8,...

Lenovo IdeaPad S400 review

While many cheaper laptops have dour-looking chassis with cheap-feeling plastic and nasty silver trim, the IdeaPad S400 is a breath of fresh air thanks to its bright red lid and slimline exterior. It shows that you don't need to spend serious money to...

It’s pretty, but its poor performance and touchpad leave the IdeaPad S400 behind its competitors
