Lenovo IdeaPad Y580-20994BU Laptop Review

A Good Idea? The $1000 you'll put down for a Y580 will net you hi

Excellent CPU and GPU performance; Sleek aesthetics; Great screen quality; Good battery life; Relatively quiet fan; Easy-to-reach ports and HDD/RAM/PCIe slots; Backlit keyboard

Lid and touchpad feel cheaply made on an otherwise sturdy base; Slow HDD performance; mSATA upgrade expensive; High-gloss and reflective display (no matte options); Tight port placement; Poor outdoor usability

The great display quality of the 1080p model and the keyboard backlight are both welcomed additions. The price premium for a pre-configured mSATA SSD, however, is a bit harder to swallow.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 Review

The IdeaPad Y580 is not only a beautifully styled laptop, it also offers great performance in just about every area.

Great casual gaming machine with discrete graphics ; Good battery life ; Blu-Ray optical drive ; Good keyboard and touchpad

Heavy ; Click pad layout takes a bit of getting used to ; No docking socket or wedge battery

The Y580 is not only a beautifully styled laptop, it also offers great performance in just about every area. It feels like it will take a fair amount of abuse, which is what it will get if the laptop is purchased for a student. The discrete NVidia...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y580

You know that laptops today are getting remarkably skinny when you can say things like this: At 6.2 pounds, Lenovo's IdeaPad Y580 weighs twice as much as the typical ultrabook. Sometimes heft has its perks, though: In this case, the Y580 more than...

Fast performance ; Vibrant speakers and display ; Sleek, backlit keyboard ; Prompt-responding touch pad

Stiff touch-pad buttons ; Touch pad off center due to numeric keypad ; Too heavy for daily commutes

The IdeaPad Y580 is an admirably fast 15-inch laptop built for entertainment as well as work or school. It's a bit bulky for commutes, but a good deal at around $1,200.

Excellent Laptop

Too bad its obsolete now!~

Laptop has thoroughly met my expectations, the screen is great, the power is awesome, and I love playing games on it

No battery life, but I'm not using it unplugged

Great Laptop

The addition of a mSata drive put this laptop into a whole different league. For me at least, having a professional looking laptop was paramount. It would be very embarrassing to attend conferences and pull out some behemoth with crazy paint and...

Best performing laptop you can find under $1000 ; Screen looks great (even though its not 1080) ; 10key ; Simple and professional looking ; Speakers surprisingly good ; mSata port

Screen isnt 1080p ; can get a bit hot when running games/large programs. This isnt really a con as it is expected, but prepare to get a cooler-stand for it

Excellent Performance per Dollar Spent

If you're looking of an inexpensive performance and reliable system that has good driver support and settings control, then this is the platform for you.

Stable fast platform with excellent architecture for the price point. I purchased this computer to work with VMWare Workstation 9. It is exceptionally fast. I can run full OS installations of many popular desktop, mobile, and server platforms while...

The memory configuration is irregular at 6 GB (1 x 2 GB and 1 X 4 GB), which could be better if both sticks of the installed DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM were identical. Also, the HDD could be a little better, but for the cost of the base unit, not bad

WiFi makes it a DOG

Lots of good specs

The WIFI alone means this is a very poor purchase. Not only is this one of the few + $1000 laptops that doesn't have dual band WiFi, Lenovo is the only major maker that makes it impossible to install a dual band ; Single band on a $300 to $500 laptop...
