Good Deal, Some Frustrations

 

I'm glad I bought this because it's by far one of the best prices for all that it includes but I bought it mainly for watching movies and using heavy graphic editing programs and am very disappointed with the bottom mounted speakers and lost sound...

- Great price for all that's included (i7, 1gb memory, great graphics) - Windows 10 (thankfully it's not 8) - Huge +17" screen - Relatively light for how large it is - Great compact charging cord/not too heavy

- HATE that the speakers are beneath the laptop. If I'd intended to use this laptop at a desk it would produce great sound but unless it's on a hard, completely flat surface, sound is greatly muffled and distorted. I wouldn't suggest buying this if you...

++ Bang for buck

 

Most reviews you'll find online for this Z70 will be riddled with complaints from the "not so bright" folks, take them with large grains of salt. Hardware and software are two entirely different worlds and just because many folks don't care for Windows...

- Large and beautiful 17" screen. Great viewing even in sunlight - Solid form factor with little flex. Bit heavy, but it's a full size entertainment laptop - Low profile keyboard with smooth keystrokes. Some may not like this, but I do. - I/O ports...

I did my research and knew all of this prior to my purchase, but some additional features would have been nice to have: - No back-lit keyboard - Slow crawling HDDs are a thing of the past and hybrid drives should be outlawed due to their high failure...

Development on the cheap

 

I needed a cheap laptop to do dev on the road, and feel very boxed in trying to develop on less than 1920x1080... and text is too small at that resolution on a 15". So here I am, unhappy, not much alternative at my budget.

CHEAP, full size screen (I'm using for web dev on the road)

Keyboard is complete garbage... so many missed keys when typing, especially the space bar, but happens all over the keyboard. Super annoying when trying to type passwords and some random char is omitted. Just writing this review, I've had to go back...

Great Laptop, But Defective Sound

 

It's a great laptop overall, I just think the integration between the processor, video card and sound card is faulty somewhere. No matter what I did (recovery, driver update, driver downgrade, settings change in BIOS). The only workaround for the sound...

This is a great bang for your buck. Display is above average as well as the video card for a laptop. Newest processor runs great

When enabling the NVIDIA GeForce 840M to as the primary video card whenever I would watch YouTube videos or play games the sound would crack/pop from the laptop speakers as well as the 3.5mm headphone jack through headphones. I tried researching this...

Eggcellent!

 

I upgraded to a Mushkin Reactor 1T SSD. The swap out was incredibly simple and the performance now is amazing!

The performance you get from this machine for the price is absolutely outstanding, as long as you know to expect the bottleneck to be the 5200 rpm drive

You can't use a flash drive to install drivers if you do a clean install, as the usb drives require a driver ; Came with Windows 8
