Though not for everyone, Apple's MacBook Air can still boast about its status as the world's thinnest notebook computer, only now, with a 33 percent performance gain, the tradeoff between size and speed is not as great as with the first generation...

Apple MacBook Air/1.86GHz

On the outside, the new MacBook Air 1.86 GHz is identical to the first generation of Apple's extremely lightweight laptops. Inside, it's quite different, offering a new and faster processor, upgraded video circuitry, a faster frontside bus, speedier...

Light and sleek ; Greatly improved graphics over first Air

Unswappable battery ; Single USB port

Apple's second stab at the Air adds a better GPU but keeps the same shape--and the problems that come with it.

Review: MacBook Air 1.6GHz

Apple's new 1.6GHz MacBook Air can still boast about its status as the world's thinnest notebook computer, only now, it offers a 33 percent performance gain over the first generation 1.6GHz MacBook Air.

Greatly improved graphics power ; Full-size keyboard ; Weighs three pounds ; Bright display

Single USB port ; No video adapters in box ; Slower than much more affordable Apple laptops ; Unswappable battery ; Bottom Line ; Apple's follow-up to the early 2008 debut of the ultraportable features faster RAM, more storage (a 120GB Serial ATA drive...

Under the hood, the new 1.6GHz MacBook Air received numerous updates. It still has 2GB of RAM, but the laptop now uses faster 1,066MHz DDR3 memory instead of the 667MHz DDR2 memory in the previous 1.6GHz MacBook Air. The new 120GB Serial ATA hard drive...

Full-size keyboard ; Weighs three pounds ; Bright LED-backlit 13.3-inch screen ;

Limited configuration options ; Slow processor ; Slow and small hard drive ; Unswappable battery ; Bottom Line ; Mac users now have a three-pound, thin laptop to call their own, but it comes with tradeoffs. The MacBook Air comes without an optical...

The MacBook Air’s keyboard, backlighting excepted, is the same square-keycapped design featured on the MacBook. And its 13.3-inch, 1,280-by-800-pixel display is identical in size to the one found on the MacBook. However, the Air’s screen is notably...

Apple MacBook Air/1.86GHz

A lousy choice for a primary computer, but THE BEST ultraportable on the market today when actually used as an ultraportable.

Incredibly thin (slips in any briefcase between papers and files), incredibly light and no ergonomic compromises. An absolute delight to use

Only 1 USB port, battery life only 3.5 hours real-world use
