Micro-Star International made its first big push into the U.S. market with its Wind U100 netbook. Now it's targeting the entry-level gaming laptop market with the GT627. But while the hardware specs look good on paper and provide a good deal of power,...
Unique Turbo mode for gaming performance handsome brushed aluminum body
Keyboard feels cramped and cheap Low resolution screen
The GT627 is an affordable gaming laptop that will ably play today's current crop of games, but some prospective buyers will conclude that its low-resolution screen and nonstandard keyboard are deal-breakers

Unique Turbo mode for gaming performance ; handsome brushed aluminum body
Keyboard feels cramped and cheap ; Low resolution screen
The MSI GT627 offers a lot in a small package, but the keyboard and screen compromises limit its appeal.

At 6.1 pounds, the GT627 is agreeably light for a gaming laptop and can be transported easily enough over long distances. Its lighter chassis can be attributed to the 15.4-inch widescreen, which is significantly smaller than the 17-inch ones of the...
Excellent Nvidia graphics card. Perfect for cash-strapped gamers. Plenty of specialty ports, including HDMI, TV tuner, and eSATA. 4GB of memory. Good processor
Flimsy keyboard
The MSI GT627-218US is a perfect gaming solution for cash-strapped gamers on the move, because the powerful Nvidia graphics card delivers smooth frames at a budget price.

Gaming Allure. When looking for a compact gaming notebook, given
Attractive design; Reasonable weight; Keyboard with its own number pad; Display with a high resolution; Good performance in gaming and applications; Integrated overclocking; Reasonable noise and heat emissions
Average case workmanship; Some inconvenient connection positioning; Average display illumination; Poor battery life
In the 15.4 inch sector, mainly the well equipped models from Acer, Asus, etc. (however most come with 9600M GT graphics)… There are also similarly high performing systems such as the Alienware m15x and the Deviltech 9000 DTX.

The GT627 is MSI's latest 15” gaming notebook with a sleek brushed metal finish and an easy overclocking Turbo button. Housed inside its stylish exterior is an NVIDIA 9800M GS graphics card paired up with an Intel P8400 Core 2 Duo to handle any modern...
17” gaming notebook performance in a 15” package ; Excellent low starting price of $1,149 ; Useful Turbo feature that overclocks the system ; Very quick hard drive
Keyboard is awkward to type on ; Squishy palmrest
In terms of noise the system fans were average for a gaming system; quiet under normal use but louder while gaming. You would probably stand out in a small lecture hall but not in a room with enough background noise

We've seen plenty of gaming notebooks that are meant to dazzle potential customers with outrageous designs, ultra high-resolution displays, twin GPUs, and quad-core processors. The MSI GT627-216US isn't such a notebook. Instead, the GT627-216US takes a...
Turbo mode for better gaming performance ; Attractive brushed aluminum body ; NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS graphics card ; Budget price
Display resolution maxes out at 1,280 x 800 ; Flimsy keyboard ; No Blu-ray drive
The MSI GT627 definitely has an excellent price/performance ratio. MSI’s Turbo mode is unique, and we like the idea of being able to overclock on the fly. The rest of the system’s specs are adequate as well, with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz P8400...

A 15.4in laptop with a quad-core CPU and 9800GS graphics for under £1,300 sounds like a bargain, but is it?
Expert review by : Tech Staff (techradar.com)
MSI GT627 is a powerful quad-core gaming system, but it is not without its flaws
Powerful for gaming ; Good multimedia capabilities
Low build quality ; 16:9 screen would have been preferred
A good budget gaming laptop, but not a great one
Consumer review (newegg.com)
Nice gaming performance and the screen is nice and high-res. Perfect for video editing as well as gaming
Its fan isn't by far the best cooler, doesn't last for more than 6 months, I had to send it in for a replacement. Its not easy finding replacement fans for this machine as its not common on auction sites ; Be a little aware of this problem as the fans...

the rubber feet on the bottom tend to fall off and are easily lost. i have contacted Msi to get new ones and they said that they cant guarantee that they will sent me new ones
