MSI GX60 Review

The MSI GX60 is a 15.6-inch gaming notebook loaded with an AMD processor and Radeon HD 7970M graphics. Is this the best bargain for a gaming rig at a retail price of $1,200?

Non-glare 1080p display ; Powerful graphics with Eyefinity support ; Fast, high-capacity storage (SSD + HDD)

Mushy keyboard ; No keyboard backlight (on this configuration) ; Processor might be a bottleneck for some games

At the end of the day the MSI GX60 is a very capable gaming notebook that delivers great value with a few minor shortcomings. It’s nice to see MSI include useful extras like a gaming mouse and backpack, but considering the gaming audience we would have...

Review MSI GX60 Notebook

A bold hardware mix. How much power does the Radeon HD 7970M stil

Casing's cool surfaces; Very potent graphics card; Matte, Full HD screen; Blu-ray drive; Many interfaces; Strong battery; Great sound; Fair price

Unusual keyboard layout; Very flashy design; Weak processor; Sensitive lid; Bulky chassis

15-inch high-end laptops such as the Asus G55, the Deviltech Devil 6700, the Schenker XMG A522 or the Schenker XMG P502.

MSI GX60 Gaming Laptop Review

An all AMD powered beast.

Extremely powerful graphics card; Sharp anti-glare screen; Decent speakers; Solid keyboard; Loads of connectivity options; Low temperatures; Comes with decent gaming mouse

No backlit keyboard; Typical MSI bloatware; CPU bottlenecks some games

I needn’t remind you dear reader that the AMD Radeon HD 7970M performs on par with the Nvidia GTX 680M and is literally one of the fastest mobile GPU’s on the planet right now, to the point that the performance is double what anything lower (from both...

MSI GX60 review

MSI's latest gaming laptop takes the very best mobile components AMD has to offer and drops them in a 15in chassis. This is a laptop that should handle even the latest demanding titles. With its dedicated graphics card, Blu-ray optical drive and Full...

The GX60's powerful AMD components aren't up to the standard we expect from a gaming laptop

MSI GX60 Gaming Laptop Review (A10-4600M/HD7970M)

Today we are looking at the latest gaming laptop from MSI, which features the new AMD A10-4600M Trinity APU, 8GB of DDR3 memory, Steelseries keyboard, 750GB hard drive and 2GB Radeon HD7970M graphics card. At less than a grand, is this the new gaming...

Great gaming machine ; very competitive price point ; 8GB of memory ; HD7970M is a powerhouse mobile gaming solution ; screen is very good ; connectivity is strong ; Steelseries keyboard

No solid state drive ; AMD switchable graphics often defaulted to the onboard 7660G ; A10 4600m can run out of steam with more demanding tasks ; can get hot ; battery life isn’t great

Kitguru says: At the price, we can overlook some of the misgivings.

Extremely Satisfied

Contacted MSI and they will allow you to open up the computer to add an SSD in the extra slot without completely voiding the warranty, however you're more likely to be the culprit if the computer does need some warranty service (future HDD problems)....

Great gaming performance. I can easily say that it keeps up with my FX-4170/ 7850 gaming rig. I can play Just Cause 2 with all the settings on Very High with no lag what-so-ever in 1920x1080 where it would lag on my gaming rig ; It has an open slot for...

No backlit Keyboard ; The glossy plastic shell gets smudged easily ; I know a lot of people are saying Windows 8 is great, but I was having some issues loading games ; Brittle feeling plastic, I wouldn’t open this thing up for upgrades unless I had to....

great for the price

Best GAMING ONLY laptop for the money.

This laptop is perfect for the price, runs everything maxed with fee exceptions sky rim will run at 60 fps on ultra with shadows turned to medium and distant object detail on med, however after I installed an ssd and win 7 it will play on ultra with 60...

WINDOWS 8 IS TRASH..INSTALL WINDOWS 7 AND AN SSD ASAP ; A10 4600m is on par with high end i3 or low end i5 but an ssd helps it a lot, still for the price I can't complain,or drop an egg for that matter

Shame this has come out after I quit gaming...

Even though I quit gaming I saw this sucker for less than a grand here on the egg as an open box model. I just knew I'd never let myself live it down if I didn't buy it. I've wanted a machine like this ever since Alienware dropped their AMD gaming...

All AMD. Let's face it, this is a fanboi box ; It's quick for everyday productivity tasks ; Runs engineering applications rather well considering the price I paid open box ; Better battery life than is stated. 7 hours is easy to get around the house...

It looks horribly unprofessional ; Plastic abounds --and it's poor quality bubble plastic. I'm worried about durability to be quite frank ; The built in speakers are not as bad as some machines I have seen, but they aren't on par with most newer...

nightmare

set up rma. being told a laptop takes 7-10 days to process for a replacement after the 4 or 5 days it takes to get back to newegg. and i paid two day shipping. 2 to 3 weeks without a replacement is a bitter pill to swallow.

specs

excessive light bleeding. white blotches against dark screen

Simply Awesome

No other machine is in the same class at this price point.

Fast, fast, fast. Top of the line Radeon GPU on a very affordable machine

Fan is loud, but that is to be expected on a machine with this level of performance
