Review HP ProBook 6550b Notebook

Professional companion. The HP ProBook 6550b is geared toward small to mid-sized businesses and therefore comes with a comprehensive package of security features. But its not only there that the notebook scores highly, but rather also impresses in...

Overall robust design, Very good display, Good keyboard, Numerous security features (hardware and software), Decent performance, Good connectivity, Good battery life, The extensive array of connections and the numerous security features of the...

Small touchpad without multi-touch, The lid isn't as stable as the other notebooks, In our opinion, an illuminated keyboard would have been a sensible supplement for the ProBook 6550b

HP ProBook 6550b 15.6in business notebook

An HP business notebook that's packed with features, performs well and is comfortable to use

Good mix of old and new connectivity, sturdy build quality, good performance

Slightly 'sticky' touchpad, 32-bit version of Windows 7, touch-sensitive buttons are slow and sometimes unreliable

If you're a business user that absolutely must have as many connectivity features built into a notebook as possible, then HP's ProBook 6550b is worth looking into. Not only do you get modern facilities such as eSATA and DisplayPort, you also get...

HP ProBook 6550b review

The HP ProBook 6550b has everything from a built-in DVD burner to a FireWire port, and you even get a 56Kbps modem and a serial port, which are components from an era when terms such as 'BBS' and 'IRQ conflict' were in everyday use. It's this mix of...

The HP ProBook 6550b's 6-cell, 55 Watt-hour battery lasted 2hr 12min in our rundown test, in which we disable power management, enable Wi-Fi, maximise the screen's brightness and loop an Xvid-encoded video. This is only two minutes off what the ProBook...

Bad battery

No I will not be buying one of these again

There is a defect in the screen which blocks part of the view and the battery will not charge so it has to be used on the power cord all the time.

It is inconvenient to have to use the power cord all the time and I would think a battery that would charge would be part of the expectations in a purchase.

Wish I had one

Newegg was great, chatted with them and they are refunding my money, I would have rather gotten a replacement laptop but of course they were out. If only the shipping company had not lost the package I would be able to enjoy this.

Specs look great, exactly what I was looking for, great mid range processor, SSD, Win 7

Never got it, thanks to the delivery company

No compatibilty with third party Hardware and Software

Technical Support indicated clearly this is an incompatible condition and has no solution. We need to return this laptop asap and get a refund or a replacement from other brand, since it is not useful to us.

All as usual

Is not compatible with some third party data acquisition hardware and software. Device Manager shows Hardware PCI cards installed via express card / 54 slot connection, yet when the handshake between software and hardware is initiated for actual data...

Does everything well

I can not say enough good things about the 6550b line of laptops. HP Probook series machines are reliable, well constructed, perform well, and the price is hard to beat for what you get. Also, as a Systems Engineer, the addition of a built-in serial...

Standard warranty is lacking, opt for the 3 year onsite if this is a business critical machine
