2014 Razer Blade Pro review: Only slightly better than last-year's model

While it is thinner and lighter than competing 17-inch gaming notebooks, the Blade Pro is also less powerful.

Gorgeous aluminum chassis ; Relatively thin and light for a 17-inch gaming laptop ; Innovative SwitchBlade UI (when it works)

The SwitchBlade touchscreen exhibits too much friction to be a good trackpad ; Middle-of-the-road performance ; Only incremental component upgrades from the 2013 model

The 2014 Razer Blade Pro is overshadowed by its smaller compatriot, the 14-inch Razer Blade; but its attractive price-to-performance ratio renders it worthy of consideration.

Consumer review (newegg.com)

exactly what I was waiting for

My last gaming laptop was an Alienware M14xR2 and it was a top performer in its day. This laptop obviously wipes the floor with the Alienware and is 1/2 the thickness. granted it should wipe the floor with a 4 year old laptop, but I really didn't...

incredible power for a system of this size. I would have got the previous version but was waiting on a version with 16GB because I sometimes need to run multiple virtual machines. I'm glad i did as the 970m is much more powerful than the previous 870m....

as as with most recent ultrabooks, everything except the SSD and Wireless card is soldered on. no upgrades are possible except swapping the SSD or Wireless which would void the warranty anyway. however that's the price of being so poweful/compact. many...

Great quality, decent specs

First off: At time of posting Newegg is listing this as a touch screen notebook. IT IS NOT. I touched it, and it swore at me for leaving fingerprints. The 860m is no 870m, but it doesn't really need to be. It handles everything *I* throw at it just...

Very clear 1920 x 1080 TN screen. All the obvious stuff goes here: It's fast, it's everything you'd come to expect from Razer. It's backed by some of the best phone support I've ever experienced. bonus: It's Nvidia's maxwell architecture, not a...

It's not perfect. For all the extra blank space above and below the keyboard, they couldn't find room for some slightly higher end speakers? They're ok, but I've heard better. I don't mind that this doesn't have an ultra high resolution monitor, but an...
