Asus ZenBook 3 UX390UA-GS041T Notebook Review

Clear direction. Everything comes at a price. If you want super thin, you will have to waive ports – but not performance! After the throttling issues of the HP Spectre 13, the world's thinnest notebook, Asus can pull it off: Performance like a big...

very light and thin, compact dimensions, one-day runtime, sturdy but not completely torsion-resistant, performance without throttling, firm key stroke, ClickPad enables fast workflow, clear microphone recordings, reliable login via fingerprint,...

not many ports, unusable webcam, shallow key travel, limited feedback, weak ClickPad feedback, speakers without bass

The ZenBook 3 UX390UA-GS041T can easily secure a spot among the top subnotebooks – but at the lower end of the ranking. Apple's MacBook 12 (Early 2016), Dell's XPS 13 9360 QHD+ i7, and HP's EliteBook Folio G1 V1C37EA manage better overall ratings, but...

The bottom line: Our quick verdict on the ASUS ZenBook 3

The ZenBook 3 does a decent job of mimicking the MacBook's design while also cramming in faster hardware. But the combination of a hard-to-use keyboard and trackpad, along with build quality concerns, make it difficult to recommend.

Thin and light design comparable to the MacBook ; As fast as other high-end ultraportables ; Vibrant screen ; Comes with a mini-dock for extra ports

Keyboard and trackpad are difficult to use ; Fingerprint sensor placement makes no sense ; Build quality is suspect

Asus ZenBook 3 review: This MacBook clone is powerful but too faithful to the original

You get great performance in this compact ultrabook, thanks to a 15-watt Kaby Lake processor and other high-end parts, but its single port for data and charging limits its general appeal.

Fast, smooth performance ; Very compact and portable ; Excellent battery life

Just one port for both data transfer and charging ; Unpleasant keyboard

Asus Zenbook 3 UX390UA review

Fast, slim, and handsome, Asus' Zenbook 3 is the super-slim laptop to beat.

Asus ZenBook 3 review

When is a MacBook not a MacBook? There's a long history of PC makers selling computers that have a striking resemblance to one of Apple's laptops. Sometimes this is in the form of a subtle homage, other times, it's a literal attack of the clones. We'd...

Powerful Core i7 processor in a slim, portable package with an excellent touchpad. A helpful USB-C mini-dock is included.

The 12.5-inch display is locked at 1,920x1,080 resolution, and it isn't a touchscreen. Lots of extra bloatware. Battery life isn't as good as the MacBook. Other similarly configured systems cost less.

The Asus ZenBook 3 mimics many of the best features of Apple's 12-inch MacBook, but in a Windows version with a more powerful processor.

Asus ZenBook 3 UX390UA

Designed to beat the MacBook and competitors like the HP Spectre at their superslim game, the Asus ZenBook 3 UX390UA tips the scales at just 2 pounds but offers heavyweight performance, thanks to an optional 7th-Generation Core i7 CPU and a...

Asus ZenBook 3 (UX390UA)

Although it's one of the thinnest and lightest laptops we've seen, the slick Asus ZenBook 3 still manages to deliver outstanding battery life and performance with its Intel "Kaby Lake" Core i7 processor.

One of the thinnest laptops on the market. Excellent performance and battery life. Strong speakers. Fingerprint reader. Windows 10 Pro.

Single integrated USB-C port. Internal fans run often. Display is limited to full HD panel. No Thunderbolt 3 support. Slippery touchpad.

With the ZenBook 3, Asus has shrunk the Core i7 laptop to amazingly slender proportions—only the HP Spectre 13 is thinner. Though the ZenBook 3 costs a few hundred dollars more than the Spectre, it bests it on every spec and performance measure, except...

ASUS ZenBook 3 review: When Windows 10 meets the MacBook

The ASUS ZenBook 3 is the company's take on a MacBook challenger. At just 11.9mm thick and weighing 910g, this is one of the most portable laptops on the market right now. It also comes equipped with Intel's latest Kaby Lake processors, which offer...

Extremely sleek and attractive design ; Features more powerful U-series processors despite slim build ; Very light and portable ; Good battery life

Only one USB Type-C port ; Shallow key travel distance ; No high resolution display option

That being said, this is the

Asus ZenBook 3 Review Tim Schiesser

Of all the ultrathin laptops I've reviewed, the ZenBook is most like Apple's MacBook from a design perspective. It packs a 12.5" display, an edge-to-edge keyboard, and a single USB-C port for charging and all connectivity. Where the ZenBook pulls away...

Excellent thin and light metal build. Packs all the performance of a full-power 'Kaby Lake' processor. More affordable than the MacBook for better hardware.

Only one USB-C port is bad. Average battery life and keyboard.

Asus ZenBook 3 (UX390UA)

It would be easy to say "honey who shrunk the ZenBook?" Sure in some ways the 12.5", 2.0 pound ZenBook 3 is an impressively miniaturized version of their higher end 13.3" ZenBook models. But the UX390UA ZenBook 3 is more than that: it's a 12" MacBook...

Madly thin and light yet rigid. Fast! Great looking, lovely IPS display, good trackpad, closer to normal keyboard than 12" MacBook

Casualties of the size and weight: only 1 USB-C port and headphone jack. No touch screen option

I think you can tell that I like the Asus ZenBook 3 UX390UA quite a lot. If you've lusted over the 12" MacBook but are a Windows person, or if you've looked at the LG Gram laptops and found their lack of rigidity disconcerting, this could be the...
