Review Samsung Series 7 700Z5A Notebook

Elegant all-rounder. Samsung has big plans with the Chronos 700Z5

Compact case; Keyboard light; Short booting; Good workmanship; Long battery life; Big touchpad; Small power adapter; Good performance; Elegant design; Fast HDD

Low scope of interfaces; Only RAM accessible; Wobbly lid; Lack of stability; Run of the mill display

Review Samsung Serie 7 700Z5A Notebook

Samsung Series 7 (NP700Z5A-S03)

I'm a sucker for skinny chassis with slot-loading optical drives. The Samsung Series 7 (NP700Z5A-S03) ($1,299 list) laptop combines an elegantly slim (under one inch thick) aluminum case with slot-loading DVD±RW drive; sunny 15.6-inch screen and...

Elegant design and feature set. Bright hi-res screen and backlit keyboard. Swift boot and resume times

DVD, not Blu-ray, drive. Non-removable battery. No WiDi

A bit pricey by PC standards but $500 under a MacBook Pro, the Samsung Series 7 is a winning desktop replacement.

Samsung Series 7 Chronos (NP700Z5A-S04AU) notebook

The Chronos is an attractive laptop with some great features, but it's let down by a very poor touchpad

Build quality and design ; Keyboard ; Battery life

Touchpad ; Screen viewing angles ; Noisy

The 15.6in, relatively slimline Chronos features excellent battery life and a very comfortable keyboard. It's well built and looks good, but it's marred by a terrible touchpad.

Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z5A

Lighter than the 15in MacBook Pro yet packing better specs for nearly half the price, the metal-clad 700Z5A is an all-round champion.

Matt, high-rez screen ; Solid brushed metal chassis ; Powerful and fairly quiet ; ExpressCache SSD ; Cheaper than rivals

No Blu-ray option ; No eSATA

Samsung’s sleek, metal-clad 15.6in Chronos laptop is the most impressive MacBook Pro rival we’ve yet seen, offering a lighter machine with better specs for nearly half the price - even if it’s not quite as attractive or well-built. A quad-core Core i7...

Samsung Series 7 (NP700Z5A-S04AU)

Although the Series 7 is set up to be a premium laptop, the sketchy touch pad and choice of AMD graphics holds it back from being truly great. Still, excellent battery life, the matte screen and backlit keyboard may be enough to sell you.

Matte screen ; Backlit keyboard ; Excellent battery life

Sketchy touch pad will frustrate ; AMD switchable graphics aren't great

Great value laptop

I would definitely recommend this to friends and family.

For the price, it's hard to find better value in another laptop. Just about everything works great

The right-click on my track pad sometimes registers as a left-click. I normally use a wireless mouse though so this is a minor problem. The laptop does get hot when using more demanding applications like HD video playback or video games. The Samsung...

Does not Series 7 specs!

Strange that there are no other comments on such a well priced and generally well regarded laptop...

Nice laptop, if it met the specs for this model

This laptop is being shipped without a backlit keyboard, despite the fact that all SAMSUNG NP700Z5A are supposed to come with a backlit keyboard. This is consistent with other suppliers of the identical model and has been confirmed by Samsung
