Samsung NP530U4B Review

In a neatly classified genre consisting of notebooks, netbooks and Ultrabooks, the Samsung 530U looks like a hybrid model. It has the slim form factor of an Ultrabook, but doesn't compromise on any of the specs and features of high performance...

The Samsung NP530U4B is priced at 54,390 (MOP). At this price tag, it competes with the likes of Wipro e.go Aero Ultra and the HP Pavilion dm4-3010tx. We weren’t overly happy with the build quality of the Wipro and the 530U is the clear winner amongst...

Samsung Series 5 Ultra (NP530U4B-A01US)

A 14-inch screen and built-in DVD burner make the Samsung Series 5 Ultra (NP530U4B-A01US) stand out from the ultrabook crowd.

Optical drive and 14-inch screen top generic ultrabooks. Hybrid hard drive system almost as fast as SSDs, with more space. WiDi

No big advantage in weight or battery life over ultraportables and 14-inch slimlines

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook 530U4BI

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The ultrabook -- a concept built around mimicking the best parts of Apple's MacBook Air -- has now become so broad that nearly anything qualifies, at least if this latest example from Samsung is any indicator.

The Samsung Series 5 is a fairly slim midsize laptop with decent battery life and plenty of features, including dual USB 3.0 ports.

Samsung calls this an ultrabook, but with a DVD drive, a 500GB platter hard drive, and a weight of nearly 4 pounds, it really doesn't fit the ultrabook mold.

If you ignore the ultrabook branding and instead think of this as a somewhat slim midsize, mainstream laptop, the 14-inch Samsung Series 5 is a fine example of the form.

Thin and light for a 14-inch laptop ; Fast boot-up and resume times, runs cool ; Strong port selection ; Comfortable trackpad

Below-average battery life ; Performance trails smaller Ultrabooks, other 14-inchers

This 14-inch Ultrabook doesn't justify its heft with long battery life or exceptional performance.

A scientific, in-depth analysis with side-by-side comparisons

Good Battery Life; Comfortable Touchpad

Middling Processing Power; Weak Graphics

The Samsung Series 5 is the jack-of-all-trades in the ultrabook world.

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook NP530U4B-S02IN

The Series 5 530U is made of anodised Aluminium material on the outside and extends to the palm rest. The keyboard base and the bezel is high quality plastic. It has a matte surface that doesnot attract fingerprints so you don’t have to keep cleaning...

Samsung Series 5 NP530U4B

The Samsung Series 5 NP530U4B is another 14-inch ultrabook that has hit the market. This one is extremely lightweight and portable and has a very comfortable keyboard. It is one of the first ultrabooks to have a built-in optical drive, which might be a...

"It's a good computer worth buying."

As a previous owner of a Macbook, I would consider this a slight step down, but definitely a good computer, and I would buy it again.

The computer has a slim design AND still has a CD drive, which is something that I (and others I'm sure) are not ready to let go of yet. The keyboard has a good feel to it. 6-cell battery last a good amount of time, even running multiple programs.

The keyboard has no backlighting, so it's hard to type when there are no lights on. The mouse clickers are a little too loud when pressed. I would rather

"Some Good Features, But With Major Problems as Well"

Heavy and clunky for Ultrabook category. Has good ports and optical drive. For really using it on the road and carrying around, more flimsy than it should be, (I feel like I have to treat it gently, which is not what I want to be thinking about when...

Speakers and sound is excellent. Display is good (although the landscape, movie-optimized screen orientation isn't good for writing and working--but this is with most laptops these days). Lots of ports (usb, sd, etc).

Not sturdy for portable use: picking up by edge, or even rapid typing, makes it rattle and groan; start-up time slow, and closing lid sleep function creates errors about 60% of time. Battery life on mine is c.3 hrs, just using word, outlook, and firefox.
