Review Samsung X420 Subnotebook

Sparkly When you hold the Samsung X420 up to the light, you can see the glitter of metallic particles embedded in the casing. It also promises good performance and portability with its dual-core processor and large battery. Will the subnotebook turn...

Good workmanship, Well designed, Good touchpad, Adequate processor performance for applications, Excellent battery life, The sparkly metallic particles

Ports poorly positioned for left-handers, Wobbly and imprecise keyboard, Mediocre screen

Samsung X420 Notebook -

Samsung bumped up their X-series of ultra portable notebooks with a new addition recently. Do stick around if you'd like to find out about the 14-inch X420 and why we think it's a winner. We aren't making any references to Coldplay by the way.

Sleek yet robust design; Extensive battery life; HDMI Port

Odd touchpad keys placement

Samsung X420 review

Samsung is well known for putting a lot of effort into the design of its products, and this ultra-portable is no exception. The X420 has an unusual pebble-like shape, with silver accents to highlight the soft curves.

The excellent battery life can’t make up for a lack of performance and a relatively high price

Samsung X420 review

The X420 is a decent ultraportable -- impressively light with great battery life, but also quite expensive. With some more powerful components and a higher build quality the price would seem more appropriate, but as it is, the X420 is hard to recommend...

Lightweight ; Full day's battery life ; Nice trackpad ; HDMI port

Expensive ; Build quality isn't great

Battery life is indeed impressive. We subjected the X420 to the Battery Eater Classic test, which puts maximum strain on a laptop's processor, and found the X420 lasted a reasonable 3 hours 35 minutes. Running the Reader test, which simulates less...

Samsung X420 review

Samsung's X420 is slim, light and relatively inexpensive, but it's far from perfect.

Go back a few years, and finding an ultraportable for £496 exc VAT would have caused a stampede. Now, however, with CULV-equipped laptops popping up all over the place, there's a huge amount of competition, and Samsung's X420 just isn't worthy of your...

Samsung X420

Going by the number of slimline ultraportables around at the moment, Intel has really been pushing its Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage platform. That's no bad thing, since it allows the likes of Samsung's X420 to bridge the gap between the upper echelons of...

Enviromentally friendly, very safe and uses very little energy. Performance is brilliant for all the essential business-y things

Nothing really, I bought it because it ticked all of my boxes. Would be nice if battery life was a tad longer
