Review Samsung 550C22-H01US Chromebook

Reliable office worker. Chrome OS is still young with a very limited scope, but it already excels in everything it has been designed to do. Is this second-generation Chromebook from Samsung worth a look to on-the-go business and office users?

Bright matte display, Large touchpad, Long battery life, Secure and reliable, Almost instantaneous performance, Easy to use and learn, Strong wireless capabilities, Almost noiseless, DisplayPort and USIM options, The Chromebook has a narrow and limited...

Limited in flexibility and scope, Essentially useless without an available Internet connection, Not easily end-user upgradeable, no USB 3.0/HDMI/eSATA/sleep-and-charge, Fragile AC connector, A backlit keyboard would go a long way in adding additional...

Samsung Series 5 Chromebook 550 (XE550C22-H01)

The new Samsung Series 5 Chromebook 550 (XE550C22-H01) laptop is a speedy 3G-equipped portable Web terminal. It works well in that regard, but there are other netbooks and even ultraportables that do more for less money.

Quick bootup into Chrome. Full rich Website support, including Flash. Chrome Extensions and setting carry over from PC-based browsing. 100MB 3G free a month for two years. Verizon 3G. Less Malware to worry about. Ethernet port

Locked into Google account. Google Docs/Drive isn?t Office. Useless without Internet connection. HDMI/DVI/VGA requires an adapter

Samsung Series 5 550 Chromebook

Google's Chrome OS was going to change the world. It was a new, cutting edge way of thinking about an operating system. Software? Pffftttt…that's old school. Windows? So 2009. File managers? Haha, right. And I bet you use a Blackberry.

Great user interface ; Bright, pleasing matte display ; Excellent performance (for the price) ; Long battery life

Chrome OS still lacks functionality ; Poor connectivity

This laptop is a good choice for consumers who need portability but can’t spend a lot of money. Chrome OS is still limiting, but it does what it’s designed to and the Series 550’s hardware is an extremely good value.

Samsung Chromebook Series 5 550 Review

There's no doubt that the Chrome OS has improved by leaps and bounds. And Samsung's Chromebook Series 5 550 is a pretty slick vehicle for the platform, especially for those who have basic needs. The comfortable keyboard and bright screen are as good as...

Improved Chrome OS interface with desktop and file manager, Attractive design, Comfortable keyboard, Relatively bright matte display

Runs hot, Expensive, Offline document editing not yet available, Doesn't support 4G

The Chromebook Finally Feels Like a Real Laptop

With Samsung's newly redesigned Series 5 Chromebook, it feels like Chrome OS has finally arrived.

Updated design with a complete (and much needed) redo on the trackpad. Excellent video performance, smooth scrolling and snappy input. Six hours of battery. Login screen great for multi-user environments, and all your bookmarks and history can be...

No big disks, no keyboard backlight, no DVD drive, no Bluetooth, no other traditional laptoppy stuff. Speakers stink. Screen is dim and lacks sharpness. Could be lighter. The whole “Just the web?” thing doesn’t fly for everyone

Samsung Series 5 550 Chromebook ( Wi-Fi)

Editors' note (October 18, 2012): In addition to the Chromebook reviewed here, Samsung now offers a newer $249 model .

The 2012 Samsung Chromebook Series 5 550 has more RAM, an improved Chrome OS, and a faster processor than the previous version.

A relatively high price, the need to always be online, and the general limitations of the Chrome OS make it tough to recommend this Chromebook over a less expensive laptop or tablet.

Despite solid hardware and a slightly improved Chrome OS, the Samsung Chromebook Series 5 550 comes with far too many caveats and compromises compared with similarly priced but more-capable tablets and laptops.

Samsung Chromebook Series 5 (3G, white)

For anybody who loves tech and gadgets, it's not hard to see the appeal of the Samsung Chromebook Series 5. It's a small, good-looking, affordable laptop the whole purpose of which is to keep you connected to your life online. It's even more attractive...

The Samsung Chromebook Series 5 is a small, attractive Netbook with long battery life, true instant-on Web access, and enough computing to use the Internet

The Series 5 is expensive for its features and abilities, and using it can be frustrating depending on your wireless signal strength

Despite solid hardware, great battery life, and fast start-up, we can't recommend the Samsung Chromebook Series 5 until and unless Google improves the Chrome OS.

Samsung Series 5 550 Chromebook

Google's Chrome OS, now more than a year old, is perfect for those who live in the cloud and always have an Internet connection. Chrome 19 takes a few things offline (basic photo viewing and editing, document viewing), but most everything is done...

Very portable, strong improvements over last gen Chromebooks software and hardware, fast OS

Lose your Internet connection and the Chromebook becomes much less useful. Mediocre hardware for the price

Samsung Series 5 Chromebook 550 review: Is less more? - Liliputing

I’m still not sure Chromebooks are ready for prime time — but the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook 550 is certainly a lot more ready for early adopters of the cloud computing paradigm than the Samsung and Acer Chromebooks released in 2011....
