Sharp's 3D Notebook

The Actius RD3D laptop can display images with a 3D effect.

Sharp Actius RD3D

To put it mildly, the Sharp Actius RD3D is like no other notebook on the market. With a 3D display, it can put you inside a computer game, a computer-aided design, or a complex medical image. By alternating images meant for the right and the left eye,...

Rich, bright 3D screen; flash memory-card slots; sturdy keyboard; great included software.

Huge and heavy; slow; expensive; no built-in Wi-Fi; limited content available to take advantage of 3D screen.

If you crave the most bleeding-edge equipment, including a 3D screen, check out the Sharp Actius RD3D. Otherwise, skip this expensive, 10-pound monster.

Sharp Actius RD3D

It's not every day—or every year, for that matter—that a new screen technology appears. So the debut of the Sharp Actius RD3D notebook ($3,299 direct) is news. It's the first U.S. product to use the company's proprietary 3-D LCD technology, which...

"Free at last! The revolution is begun."

Portable 3D without glasses says it all- Free...

3D you can carry, w/o glasses! With some additional software I can do 3D stills, video, and animation! Outstanding! Multiple built-in card readers (a regression on the next generation!)

Tendonitis, only 1024 res(fortunately, the newest version of my animation software will allow that), not much battery, bulky

Funny Reviews""

You guys are possibly the funniest people I have ever encountered in my life. You should be stand-up comedians.

You guys must have pretty crappy lives if you spend your time making stuff up about killer computers. The 3D effect works because the screen varies the amount of light which reaches each eye, not by sending radiation into the user's eyes.

Product Specifications

Sharp PC-RD3D is the world's first notebook PC equipped with an original 3D LCD that requires no special glasses to see 3D images and can be easily switched between plane (2D) and solid (3D) display modes. This allows the PC to offer dynamic 3D display for using 3D content and for preparing 2D documents and spreadsheets like on a normal PC. The futuristic notebook PC is offered for application software and content developers as well as companies considering its use for business purposes. Solid (3D) display allows dynamic reproduction of spatial positions of an object, and is expected to work as a futuristic display technology ushering in a new world of digital images that deliver life-like experience unaffordable with 2D display for versatile purposes, including CAD and other design applications, medical care, education, entertainment, advertising, broadcasting, and electronic books. A built-in high-performance Intel Pentium 4 microprocessor 2.8 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce 4 440 Go graphics chip provide an environment to draw three-dimensional digital images smoothly. Users can actually experience 3D display performance through preinstalled 3D content display and preparation software and sample content.
