Sony Cuts Some Corners, Delivers an $800 Ultrabook

Sony's Vaio T Series is more restrained than the company's other notebooks, offering a slimmed-down computing experience complete with third-generation Core i5 CPU for just 800 bones.

Sony Vaio T Series SVT13112FXS

In 2012, ultrabooks are everywhere. Ostensibly, they're thinner, lighter, possibly more stylish laptops. And, as of late, they're pretty affordable, too. The average Windows ultrabook may have achieved MacBook Air-level prices in 2011, but this year...

The Vaio T is an affordable, slim Sony laptop that shares a lot in common with the design of the Vaio Z, and comes with all the ports and features you'd need, plus a larger hard drive.

The screen isn't the best we've seen on a Vaio, and a horribly shallow nonbacklit keyboard is uncomfortable.

Sony's first ultrabook, the Vaio T, doesn't fall far from the tree of other thin Sony laptops like the Vaio Z, but it's far more affordable: this is ultrabook-as-budget-laptop, not ultrabook as high-end computer.

Overall the VAIO T is another nice entry from Sony into the ultraportable market.

Sony VAIO T Series 13 (SVT131290X)

When Sony sent us its first ultrabook, the VAIO T Series, last spring, we were impressed with its handsome design, wealth of features, and surprisingly affordable price. Fast-forward to the fall, and Sony has refreshed the T Series to coincide with the...

Aggressively priced ; Responsive touch screen ; Long battery life ; Sharp design ; Good port selection

Mediocre keyboard ; So-so Webcam ; No GPU upgrade option

Sony has updated its winning ultrabook with an optional touch screen to take full advantage of Windows 8. That responsive screen adds only $100, and you still get the sleek design and good performance of the original.

Sony VAIO T Series (SVT13112FXS)

If you're not going to be first to a party, at least make a splash when you show up! That's the rule Sony followed with its first foray into the ultrabook category, the VAIO T Series SVT13112FXS. An "Ivy Bridge"-powered superslim laptop, the T Series...

Affordable price for an ultrabook ; Hybrid hard drive/solid-state technology ; Sharp design ; Good port selection

Mediocre keyboard and Webcam ; Sealed-in battery

Sony's first ultrabook hits almost all high notes, with a sleek design, good performance, plenty of features and—get this!—a very affordable price.

Sony VAIO T Series (SVT13116FGS) Ultrabook

Sony VAIO T Series review: a third gen Core i7 Ultrabook with plenty of style and a few shortcomings

Core i7 CPU ; Fast SSD ; Battery life ; Good style

Glossy screen ; Fairly noisy ; USB ports only on one side ; Keys feel too shallow

Good looks, fast performance and long battery life are the standout features of the Sony VAIO T Series (SVT13116FGS). However, it's an Ultrabook that could use a bit of refining: we'd like a better keyboard, dual-band Wi-Fi, a matte screen and a USB...

Sony Vaio T Series Ultra-book

Sony has joined the mid-segment ultra-book league with its latest T Series ultrabook Vaio SVT11113FGS priced at Rs 49k and powered by Intel's 3rd gen processor.

A good performer but loses out on features to the Samsung Series 5 ultrabook.

"Sony Vaio is your worst choice. you will regret it!!!!!"

Vaio is an absolute garbage! if you buy this you are pretty much betting on the machine. If it has any flwas, then, you are stuck bad. They are the only company that don't have return policy (unless you buy it from the store). I sent mine for repair,...

Nothing, Maybe a bit good looking

frequent failure, extremely poor customer service

"Has the new Intel 4000 graphics."

New graphics 4000 chip/card. Suppose to be 2.5x faster than 3000. Regular hard drive plus SSD (hybrid)

Back at you on this one.
