Sony Vaio SB VPC-SB1V9E review

At first glance Sony's Vaio SB looks exactly what you'd expect from a business-oriented laptop. Small and light, it mixes a Core i5 processor with AMD Radeon graphics, and wraps it all up in a thin matte black shell. It's the laptop you imagine Sony...

Thin and light, impressive multimedia capabilities

Poor 802.11n performance, large bundle of trial software

A good all-rounder that mixes Sony style with business savvy

Sony VAIO S Series VPC-SB1V9E review

Feature-packed Sony ultraportable laptop

Sandy Bridge CPU ; Highly ortable ; Great set of features ; Plenty of storage ; Anti-glare screen

Not much of a looker ; Occasionally noisy

If you want a highly portable laptop that still has enough grunt to run all of your applications, as well as a DVD drive and plenty of storage space, then the Sony VAIO VPC-SB1V9E is a fantastic option.

Very nice laptop. Fast response to internet browsing. Keyboard is very stylish. All in all a pleasure to use

I feel this laptop is severly over priced by SONY. But then nothing seems to come reasonably priced in the U/K these days

Very portable ; Very good battery life ; Good performance ; Nice keyboard feel ; Handles graphics packages & video with ease ; Superfast startup and shutdown with the SSD drive

Screen OK but narrow vertical viewing angle - doesn't really bug me but may do for some ; Fan noise can be intrusive ; Not really a fault with the machine itself, but the store I bought it from states it has Blu-ray when it only has DVD RW, and spec...

MacBook eater: faster, cheaper and better specified ; Light powerful and good looking ; DVD drive ; USB3 ; Long battery life on "Stamina" setting ; Quickstart Web button does not need to boot up full Windows session

Not many ; Power supply is nearly as heavy as laptop ; Headphone socket interferes with DVD drive tray

Quick to start up and the web button gives quick connection to the internet. The backlit keyboard feature is great when I am using my laptop in low lighting in my living room. This laptoip has all the features I wanted and more. I love this laptop...

Can't think of or find any

Good aesthetics. Lightweight. Improved battery life but doesn't quite live up to its spec sheets. Solid built. Reliable brand

Fan noise can be a bit loudy depending on activity. Poor quality speakers considering its price. Screen resolution not the best. I expected more considering its price tag and sony brand name. Overall still happy with purchase

Probably the best computer I've ever had (maybe excepting the Atari 800 I had in the early 80s) ; Good points are - speed, Core i7/SSD combo is really zippy (windows 7 loads in 10 seconds from a cold boot!) ; It is light, fits in my satchel and after...

There aren't really any Bad points, some niggles ; The screen is ok rather than 'fantastic' - and the auto sense for the brightness is a bit hit and miss... and the touchpad buttons are just a little stiff for my liking
