Sony Vaio YB review – affordable AMD powered Vaio, with ups&downs

I've always been a fan of Sony's Vaios, a line of notebooks that can be considered a dream for every geek. However, Vaios used to be peppery priced, so only available to a bunch of lucky ones. I sai...

If you want a Sony Vaio for your everyday tasks and some multimedia use, this is the one for you, especially if you are on a budget and crave for a light and compact laptop.

If you've got modest needs (portability but still able to get things done), Sony's Vaio YB will fit your life perfectly.

Performance and price is excellent ; High quality screen

Build quality is lower than usual for Sony ; Please sir, may I have more RAM

Review: Sony Vaio YB

One of the first laptops with AMD Fusion on the market.

Bumping the RAM up to 3 or 4GB would just give that little bit of extra buffer so memory didn't become an issue when running heavy loads. Overall though, it is a minor qualm over a product that generally exceeds our expectations.

Sony Vaio YB

This is a good portable PC which is ideal for travelling. Would have been perfect if it came with 4GB RAM and 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

Portability, good display, decent keyboard

Could do with more RAM

Am I the only one that's getting the big picture? Sony YB only other competitor as of now is the HP dm1z which blows away Sony YB specs in every categories: HP: 7200rpm HHD, Altec Lansin Speaker, 64bit win7, 7-8 hrs battery and yet HP is cheaper. ...

lighted keyboad, pretty looking

weak battery, slow HHD (5400rpm), weak speaker, 32 but win7

Sony Vaio YB

Sony advertises this model for less than $600 in Hong Kong and US. This is unfair for Australian consumers. The YB series also performs poorly during PCMark Vantage test, worse than the previous YA series. GPU is however, better than YA's Inter HD...
