Toshiba Kirabook Review

While much of the PC industry is hustling to bring lower-cost Ultrabooks to market, Toshiba is unabashedly raising the high end, complete with an all-new brand meant to ooze excellence. The first product to wear this proud badge is the 13.3-inch...

Toshiba KIRAbook Review

Asus Zenbook UX31A Review | After playing around with it for our reviewing purposes, we're still impressed with Toshiba's offering

and have to deal with a heavier laptop as the 13-inch MBP with Retina weighs in at 3.57lbs versus the KIRAbook’s 2.66 (!).

The Toshiba Kirabook ultrabook has a breathtaking screen. However, that screen doesn't necessarily justify the system's high price point.

Brilliant 2,560-by-1,440 resolution screen. Very light. Premium materials and look. Two year warranty, including tech support and Internet Security. Includes media creation apps (Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements). Three USB 3.0 ports and...

No 802.11ac or 5GHz Wi-Fi. Small bezel makes some touch gestures inconvenient. May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps. Integrated graphics

The Toshiba Kirabook ($1,999.99) is a high-end ultrabook cut from the same cloth as the Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (Retina Display) and the Google ChromeBook Pixel. All three are ultraportable laptops with higher than 1080p HD screens. All three will...

Toshiba Kirabook review: finally, a flagship Windows 8 laptop

Typically when I meet with a manufacturer to talk about new products, they're coy about mentioning their competitors. They refer to "our competition," or "other players," or "similar devices." Every company wants me to believe it's the only company on...

Gorgeous, high-res display ; Small, thin, and light ; Great speakers

Too much of Windows isn't designed for high-res displays ; Some performance quirks ; A few small build quality issues

The Kirabook makes me really excited for the next version

Toshiba Kirabook

What makes one laptop worth $700 and another worth $2,000? That's a tricky question, and one that has bedeviled PC makers looking to join a handful of companies such as Apple in charging a premium price for products that, at the end of the day, use...

The Toshiba Kirabook is made of superior materials and has an unusually high-resolution display.

The design doesn't wow, considering the high price. Battery life is merely OK, and the least expensive version omits a touch screen.

Toshiba's ambitious Kirabook has a screen that rivals Apple's MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and a price to match. It's a solid, useful laptop, but for these prices, the design should really be more exciting.

Toshiba Kirabook Review

Apple's announcement of the MacBook Pro with Retina raised the bar on laptop display quality, and competitors have been slow to catch up. Windows laptop manufacturers seem content to slap 1080p on anything that sits still, leaving just Google to take...

Solid chassis ; Glass touchscreen with thin bezels ; Beautiful 2560 x 1440 display ; Excellent performance

Display suffers from scaling issues ; Extremely hot and loud at load ; Not a good value

While the Kirabook’s hardware impresses, Windows software rarely makes proper use of its high-resolution display.

Toshiba Kirabook

The Toshiba Kirabook offers a Retina-like display in a sub-3-lb. package, along with good battery life, but the price is steep.

Very crisp display; Thin light design; Good battery life; Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements included; Fast SSD; Excellent audio

Expensive; Sharp front corners; No Retina-ready apps; Lackluster webcam

Click to EnlargeFor those who can afford it, the Kirabook has everything: a gorgeous and very-high-resolution touch-screen display, a blazing 256GB SSD, and gobs of power in a sexy, yet durable design. Better yet, this $1,999 system lasts nearly 7...
