Toshiba Portégé R100 (1.1-GHz Pentium M)

Great performance and battery life prove that this system is about more than just good looks.

Super-slim and light. Full-sized, comfortable keyboard.

External optical drive costs extra. Just two USB ports.

Toshiba Portégé R100

Latest graphics chipset. New design.

Hefty. Annoying mouse buttons. Weak battery.

The performance and design of the Acer Aspire 2020 rival some of the top gaming notebooks, and it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a multimedia notebook that is a bit more portable than the 9- to 10-pound machines out there.

Service and support

Toshiba Portege R100

Very thin and light; long battery life with high-capacity battery; integrated 802.11b wireless; full-size VGA port; three-year warranty.

Short battery life with primary battery; limited secondary storage options through Toshiba.

The Toshiba Portege R100 is a very light, well-designed laptop, but like many ultraportables, it suffers from abbreviated battery life when running off its primary cell.

Toshiba Port?g? R100

The dazzling Toshiba Port?g? R100 notebook is an impressive 2.4-pound ultra-ultraportable (most ultraportables weigh 3 to 4 pounds) with a full-size keyboard, 40GB hard drive, and 12.1-inch XGA display. The only flaw in this otherwise impeccable system...

Toshiba Portege R100 Review (pics)

Toshiba s Portege R100 ultra slim notebook makes a powerful first impression. I have owned a lot of portables ranging from sexy Apples to business workhorses and even a VAIO ultra slim. None can match the R100 for sexiness. I think that the Toshiba M2,...

Toshiba Portege R100 Centrino subnotebook computer review

The Toshiba Portege R100 is an ultra-slim and light (and we mean it!) subnotebook that's easy on the wallet and your back. We reviewed the lovely Sony Vaio X505 a few weeks ago, which is a Japanese model available only from importers that's a bit...

Good performance and very good battery life. Plenty of ports, good viewing angle, internal optical drive means you can watch DVDs on the plane. Intel wired and wireless networking are strong and the Bluetooth option offers 2.0 + EDR speeds. Biometric...

No included optical drive means you'll need to spend more money on a drive so you can install software. Make sure to get the Toshiba PC Card DVD drive that will boot the Toshiba if you ever have to re-install the OS using the recovery CDs. I'd like to...

An extremely thin and light notebook for a reasonable price. The fast Centrino architecture, ability to upgrade to 1 gig of RAM, included Windows XP Professional and reliable Intel Pro Wireless networking are definite winners. It has VGA, USB 2.0, 1...

Toshiba Portege R100

If you're looking for one of the slimmest, lightest, and downright desirable notebooks around, this is it. But you'll have to pay dearly to show off in the airport departure lounge.

Toshiba Portege R100

The super thin-and-light form factor and built-in wireless connectivity of the Portege R100 make it a truly portable notebook for business travelers.
