Toshiba Portege R835-P70

When we first reviewed the Toshiba Portege R835 in March, it earned an enthusiastic Editors' Choice Award. But that was five months ago--an eternity in PC time. Now that second-generation Intel Sandy Bridge chips are in nearly every competing laptop,...

With a new Intel Core i5 CPU, sharp design, and nearly all-day battery life, the Toshiba Portege R835 is a smartly priced alternative to the 13-inch MacBook Pro

Intel's integrated graphics are better than they used to be, but still not gamer-friendly, and features such as Bluetooth and mobile broadband are missing from some configs. There's no Blu-ray option (only DVD), and the speakers are somewhat anemic

Excellent battery life, a light weight, and great pricing make the Toshiba Portege R835 hard to beat, even in the highly competitive 13-inch laptop category.

For the price hard to beat.

A great ultra portable for the price. $729 at Best Buy. Once you get used to the keyboard, it is good. It does have plastic keys and they do make a clicking sound. If you do a lot of low light work then the black keys on black background and no...

Good keyboard.. now if only I could see keys at night!

Basically.. I wouldn't be re-gifting this laptop if the keyboard were back lit.. this is not very good when you're doing programming homework and trying to sit on the couch with the girlfriend while she's watching TV.. I wind up on the table under the...

Fast ; Durable ; Big hard drive ; The graphics really aren't too bad in these i5s.. I play starcraft 2 on it and portal 2 and it's not too shabby

TrackPad buttons are weird.. they are so slick your moist finger sticks ; Speakers are no good ; HINGES! My plastic hinges broke.. how cheap ; I need back light on the keyboard!! I should have paid attention

must have for business people and travelers!!!

this is real Macbook pro killer, fast, very portable

it is perfect, very light, portable, battery is great, I have it for about a month and it is almost attached to me ; good friend for a business traveler

the keyboard- I don't like the sound, and keys are shiny little bit, but this is minor issue for me ; the sound- it is not good, not worst but not perfect

Fast, lightweight, does not feel cheap - love it

This laptop spoiled me for those "heavy" 6 pound multimedia laptops. I used it intensively for a few months, and like it better than my more expensive Lenovo. It is incredibly light, very easy to take everywhere, has great battery life--like a...

Very lightweight, stays cool to touch, fast processor, nice design, durable, good trackpad, keyboard good for web surfing, supports multi-touch

viewing angle, no dedicated volume key, brightness, function key doesn't work consistently

get it for nothing from

Apple products are great, but why buy it when you can get it for nothing from like i did. Go there and folIow the steps to get a free gadget like PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, iPad 2, iPhone 4, HDTV and more

none. everything is good

almost perfect

If this laptop had illuminated keyboard ( even at cost of some battery life ex: 10% ), ==== perfect but overall it's highly recommended. Do your price research first before you buy. Updated on Sep 5, 2011

light, long battery life, very portable, solid build, specs and price. I bought it @ best buy for $729+tax, week later they were selling for 779+tax, weird magazine lists this one for $925 and at toshiba website is for approx: $850

bloatware ( configurable, uninstalled few things at first, now I don't remember which ones )

Amazingly lightweight but shockingly powerful.

Basically before purchasing this laptop, I came over to CNET to check out the user reviews and now it is time for me to return the favour. Specifications of the Portege may vary since I am living in Asia. I bought the Portege R830 with a core i7 2620m...

Core i7 with Sandy Bridge ; Lightweight at 1.4kg ; Battery life ; Very portable

Keyboard cramped ; Too much bloatware from Toshiba
