Toshiba Port?g? R835-P88 Laptop Review

Affordable Thin-and-Light. The lightweight Port?g? series will be refreshed this year as the all-new Ivy Bridge R930 series, but does the Sandy Bridge R830 series still have some life left in it? ...

Great CPU performance ; Stable base ; Easily accessible ports and expandability ; Optical drive ; Both USB 3.0 and eSATA ; Precise multi-touch touchpad

High surface temperatures ; High system noise ; Weak lid ; Narrow viewing angles ; Low contrast ; Poor outdoor usability/ Glossy screen ; Average battery life ; Spongy keyboard ; Throttles when under very high loads

Improved lid stability for better resistance to pressure and twisting. A brighter screen with a matte option would allow for better visibility when outdoors. Finally, a more able cooling solution to prevent throttling, high noise and high temperatures...

Toshiba Portege R835 review

Reviewing the Toshiba Portege R835-P88 is like revisiting an old friend. Previous versions of this laptop have won our coveted Editors' Choice Award, by offering excellent all-around performance in a slim, lightweight 13-inch body, for a lot less than...

This latest version of the Toshiba Portege R835 is still a great value, packing a big hard drive, optical drive, and full-power processor into a chassis not much bigger than an ultrabook.

This 13-inch laptop once felt thin and light, but similarly priced newer laptops beat it on style and portability.

This one-time favorite is still an excellent go-to 13-inch laptop, if you don't need something quite as slim as an ultrabook, and you can get it for the right price.

Toshiba Portege R835-P56X

Thanks to a new Core i5 processor and other welcome upgrades, the Toshiba Portege R835 is one of the best full-performance ultraportables you can buy for less than $1,000.

We liked but didn't love the last Toshiba Portege because it ran a little hot and we experienced some problems with the touchpad. Toshiba has addressed those issues with the Portege R835-P56X. The company also beefed up the graphics performance while...

Toshiba Portege R835-P50X

The R835-P50X delivers a solid typing experience.. Every key has that perfect bumpy, deep response that you don't get from the flatter keys of the MacBook Air 13-inch and Samsung Series 9. It's like a Lenovo ThinkPad keyboard, except that all the keys...

One of the lightest in the 13-inch class. Superb typing experience. Aluminum design. Built-in optical drive. Standard voltage processor. Excellent performance. Superior battery score. Reasonably priced. WiDi2

Poor speakers

The Toshiba Portege R835-P50X is the epitome of what an ultraportable should be: Lightweight, relatively inexpensive, powerful, and equipped with enough battery life to last from dawn to dusk.

Toshiba Portégé R835-P56X

Whenever we test one of Toshiba's ultraportable Portégé laptops, we're reminded of the stereotypical Volkswagen full of clowns: We're not sure exactly how they do it, but boy, do they cram a lot in there. So we were more than pleased when a new model...

Excellent speed, battery life ; Decent 3D graphics ; Optical drive ; Sturdy build

Disappointing keyboard, speakers ; Vent on side blows very hot air ; No Bluetooth

Under $1,000, this sturdy little ultraportable is an excellent value, with top-notch app performance, a robust feature set, and nearly the longest battery life we’ve seen.

Toshiba Portege R835-P56X

Even though this device lacks Bluetooth connectivity and the variety of options for communicating with a customer service representative is limited, the Toshiba Portege R835-P56X is a laptop computer with powerful performance and excellent memory and...

This Toshiba laptop offers up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge

The Toshiba Portege R835-P56X lacks Bluetooth connectivity and several customer service options

8.9/10 A long battery life, 640GB of memory and a lightweight design make this an ideal laptop for business and multimedia needs.

Great compromise between weight and expandability

[I must point out my laptop is an older model] The main review says it all - this laptop is a full-featured fat ultrabook that weights 3-lbs and allows you to change the battery, hard drive, etc.

Comes with just about every feature and weighs about the same as an ultrabook. You can also change the battery, hard drive, etc.

Software bundle is horrible. I completely wiped the drive and re-installed. Lucky for me I had an extra copy of Windows because their backup software is horrible too and didn't work correctly.
