Toshiba Satellite C655-S5542 Review

Compared with many of the notebooks we review, the Toshiba Satellite C655-S5542 offers mediocre performance and graphics. But for those who only need a system for simple tasks such as surfing the Web, checking Facebook and writing documents, this $399...

Extremely affordable, Lightweight for a 15-inch notebook, Large keyboard, Face recognition

Toshiba Satellite C655 review: Toshiba Satellite C655

How little can you get away with spending on a midsize 15-inch laptop? According to Toshiba, it's $399, the price of the 15.6-inch Satellite C655-S5542.

The Toshiba Satellite C655 is about as inexpensive as a 15-inch laptop can get while having all the basics, but it's still faster than some AMD laptops.

The bottom-of-the-barrel Celeron processor offers nearly Netbook-level performance, and the plastic body makes this feel like a throwaway laptop. It also lacks an HDMI port.

If you're still considering an Intel Celeron processor for a midsize laptop in 2012, the Toshiba Satellite C655-S5542 at least turns on and lets you surf the Web, if slowly.

Toshiba Satellite C655D review

There's a common conception in laptop purchasing that the best values to be had on the bottom end tend to lie in the "doorbuster" 15-incher. We've seen these laptops advertised during holiday shopping seasons and in store circulars--they're big, cheap,...

An affordable 15-inch laptop with a long battery life.

The AMD Fusion E-240 processor underperforms compared to similarly priced alternatives; chassis feels cheap; touch pad is smaller than average; no Bluetooth or HDMI; underfeatured for its size.

While the Toshiba Satellite C655-S5130 cracks the $400 barrier for an affordable 15-inch laptop, this particular AMD Fusion-powered laptop underperforms and underdelivers.

Toshiba Satellite C655D

This ultra-affordable, AMD-powered laptop pairs netbook-like performance with a larger screen.

It helps to think of the Toshiba Satellite C655D more as a big netbook than a well-rounded mainstream notebook. At $398 (currently $378 at Walmart), it costs the same as many of those higher-end 10-inch systems, yet it offers a much larger screen and...

Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130

The keyboard doesn't have the island-style keys of a chiclet keyboard, but creates a similar feel with specially molded keys. The C655D-S5130 also has a numeric pad that is shifted a quarter-inch down so that the numeric pad doesn't line up with the...

Low price. Good design. A 720p screen. DVD SuperMulti drive. Decent battery life

Weak processor. Dinky hard drive. Only two USB ports

The Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130 laptop has all the limitations of a netbook, like weak processing power and few connectivity ports for peripherals, without the benefits of a netbook's portability and all-day battery life.

Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5537

For under $400, the Satellite C655D-S5537 is the ultimate budget computer.

Affordable; Long battery life; EPEAT Gold certified product

Cheaply made

When it comes to the Satellite C655D-S5537, you get what you pay for.

Toshiba Satellite C655-S5542

The Toshiba Satellite C655-S5542 is a 15.6-inch portable featuring Intel's humble Celeron B815 processor, a 320GB hard drive and 3GB of RAM. At under $400, however, it certainly makes waves in the budget notebook category, but the lack of "extras",...

Toshiba Satellite C655D AMD E-240 Fusion APU Notebook Review

The processor inside the Toshiba Satellite C655 is just one reason why this laptop is interesting. The other is the laptop's size. Yes, laptops with 15.6” displays are the most common sold today, but Intel has made sure to keep Atom processors out of...

Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5043 Laptop Review

Toshiba has come up with another budget Satellite series laptop as Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5043. The C655D-S5043 looks pleasant compared with some of the bland systems in its class.

The C655D-S5043 is a basic laptop for the most basic needs: Web browsing and e-mail, watching video offline and on, and basic productivity tasks.
