Toshiba Satellite L745D review

What constitutes a rock-bottom budget laptop? Normally, the holiday "doorbuster" special tends to be a $300-range machine, with a 15-inch screen, a low-end chassis, and an underpowered processor. While we sometimes mock these computer bottom-feeders,...

The Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220 is a functioning laptop running Windows 7, with a 500GB hard drive.

The Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220 has a sluggish, underperforming processor, disappointing battery life, and a price that hardly fits its performance.

Budget shoppers had best look elsewhere than the 14-inch Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220. A low-end processor and middling speed aren't worth the $499 asking price, and we've seen many laptops in the same range that offer more.

Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220RD

The Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220RD will meet your basic computing needs for a low price, but its limited feature set and components are better suited to a netbook, and left us wanting more.

Lightweight plastic design. Decent 14-inch display. 5-hour battery-life. Generous 500GB hard drive. Affordable price.

A netbook-class AMD Fusion processor can't compete with the Core I processors found in competing budget laptops. Wimpy speakers. Bloatware.

Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220 Review

The Toshiba Satellite L745D-S4220 is a simplified and affordable 14-inch laptop designed for limited back-to-school budgets. Packed with a battery-friendly AMD dual-core processor and graphics, Toshiba promises this laptop will make the grade.

Good HD video and light gaming performance ; Low cost ; Good keyboard and touchpad

Horribly slow hard drive ; Thick with cheap plastics ; Low-quality screen

Toshiba Satellite L745D

We perceive two kinds of budget-laptop shoppers: those who want the best value, and those who want to spend as little as possible, no matter what. For the latter crew, the Toshiba Satellite L745D has lots of extreme-saver eye appeal. If you're the...

Great entry-level price ; Good display quality ; Comfortable keyboard, touch pad

Sluggish performance ; Poorly reinforced plastic shell

This budget laptop, with a nice 14-inch LCD, is fine for light browsing and computing. It's only a good choice, though, if speed and portability aren't top concerns, and price is.

Works as advertised

I wanted a mid-range laptop that had some capability for playing modern games at "OK" settings. A lot of the laptops in this range had better (faster) CPUs (2nd-gen i5's), but the integrated HD 3000 graphics didn't were unimpressive. Some have...

Decent size, weight, and keyboard for the cost and performance. Overall good build quality

If you want to get the advertised battery life, you can't turn up the screen brightness, and other power settings really affect performance. I've turned things up a little bit, and it still gets about 4 hours ; Would have been nice to have at least...

Good all-around laptop

Have it for a month now. Fast, light weight and also beautiful design. Great monitor in the sense of colors and brightness but with low angle of viewing. Also, stays cool even after hours of extensive use. As for cons - too many unnecessary light...

Good laptop for function and speed

I've had this laptop for about a month now and have not had any issue with it. It boots up quickly and is almost too fast for me, but I'm getting used to it. The battery life is not as good as stated and non-Toshiba extended batteries don't work, so...

Satellite L745D-S4230 Laptop

This laptop is by far my favorite. Beautiful style and clear screen. Everything about this laptop makes it the best I ever had (so far). I did how ever notice 4 minor flaws that might just be the way I use my laptop. The SPACE BAR and the LEFT CLICK...
