Toshiba Satellite P50T-BST2N01

Toshiba's Satellite P50T-BST2N01 desktop-replacement laptop impresses immediately, thanks to a 4K display with 3,840-by-2,160 resolution, but it's best suited to enthusiasts and professionals who simply must have Ultra HD.

Fantastic 4K Ultra HD display. Technicolor-certified color and calibration tools. Harman/Kardon speakers and DTS sound. Solid performance, thanks to an Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia graphics

Very short battery life. Ultra-high-resolution display causes some scaling issues

The latest spec race among laptop manufacturers is in display resolution, kicked off by Apple's Retina display and spurred along with HD+ and ever higher pixel density from PC manufacturers. Toshiba has claimed the lead, with the Satellite P50T-BST2N01...

Discrete graphics? Check. Accurate color? Check. 4K content? Someday.

4K display (resolution of 3840x2160 pixels) ; Technicolor Color Certification (for color accuracy) ; Mostly high-end specs

Very little 4K video content available ; HDMI output limited to 30Hz at 4K resolution ; No Blu-ray drive

This is one beautiful laptop, but with 4K content so hard to come by, you might be paying for more technology than you can actually use.

Toshiba Satellite P50T-BST2N01

The first laptop to offer a 4K touch display, the Toshiba Satellite P50T delivers stunning views and powerful graphics, but mediocre battery life.

Sleek elegant design; Captivating 4K display; Powerful graphics and performance

Short battery life; Computer speakers lack definition; Sluggish hard drive

It's nice to see Toshiba breaking new ground in the laptop world again. As the first notebook with a 4K display, the $1,799 Satellite P50T delivers arresting detail along with vivid hues. Color temperature settings and the inclusion of Adobe Photoshop...

Toshiba Satellite P50t-BST2N01: The first laptop to boast a 4K display

Toshiba's Satellite P50t boasts two important firsts: It's the first laptop to feature a 4K display, and it's the first to be Technicolor Color Certified. You likely have at least a passing familiarity with 4K video, but I would argue that the latter...

The day will come when 4K movies are as common as 1080p video is today. Until then, dropping $1800 for a Toshiba Satellite P50t buys bragging rights and a color-accurate display more than anything else.
