Notebookcheck's Best of June 2013 - Notebooks

Haswell. The name of Intel's new CPU generation has been branded in our minds. After meticulous preparations, we reviewed 13 test samples with the new chip in June. Initially, we focused on the Core i7. However, Apple's new Air comes with a Core i5. In...

Review Toshiba Satellite S955D-S5150 Notebook

Slimmer, lighter, better? Toshiba has placed their notebooks on a

Thin and lightweight; Good Touchpad; Includes an optical drive; Low noise and heat

Flimsy construction; Weak CPU performance; Restrictive battery life; Frustrating keyboard; Glossy, unremarkable TN display

Where to go, then, if you’re searching for an ultraportable, affordable 15-inch notebook? Options remain unfortunately thin, with HP’s Sleekbook 15z and Lenovo’s IdeaPad S405 receiving mixed reviews as well. It might be worth saving up a bit more and...

Review Toshiba Satellite P845T-S4310 Notebook

Affordable Touchscreen. Throwing in a touch-enabled display on an otherwise standard notebook is becoming common due in part to the touch-focused nature of Windows 8. Is this inexpensive 14-inch touchscreen Satellite a blast to use? ...

Attractive aluminium case ; Good CPU performance ; Sensitive touchscreen ; Large touchpad ; Decent speakers ; HDD and RAM easily accessible

Lid sensitive to pressure ; Keyboard with soft touch and short travel ; Rather slow system performance ; Graphics performance reduced while running on battery ; Some ports not ideally placed for right-handers ; Glossy screen should be brighter for...

At $700, the P845T is one of the least expensive touch-enabled Windows 8 notebooks currently available

Toshiba Satellite Click W35Dt-AST2N01

I really wanted to like the Toshiba Satellite Click. I did. But reality set in.

The Toshiba Satellite Click runs Windows 8, costs $599, and has a keyboard.

Just about everything else: battery life’s short, performance is slow, and the laptop is bulky and heavy. And that keyboard doesn’t feel very good at all.

By attempting to shoehorn an affordable 13-inch laptop-tablet into a crowded market, the Toshiba Satellite Click ends up as a compromised, underperforming mess.

Toshiba Satellite Click review

It's no secret that PC sales are mired in a lengthy slump, while smartphone and tablet sales continue to climb. With that in mind, it's easy to see why PC makers are focusing on making convertible devices like Lenovo's IdeaPad Flex and detachable...

Premium-looking design ; Runs cool and dead silent ; Loud speakers in keyboard base ; Nice screen for a budget system ; 500GB hard drive

Second battery didn’t work in two different review units ; Awful performance compared to Intel Core-based systems ; Thick and heavy, as both a tablet and a laptop

While the $599 Click is an attractive detachable notebook, its performance is awful when compared with similarly priced systems. Also, the second battery failed to work in either of our review units.

Toshiba Satellite U845t-S4165

Zippy processing power along with a slender chassis and solid all-around performance come together in making the Toshiba Satellite U845t-S4165 worthy of serious consideration, though its limited storage capacity and so-so keyboard dampen its overall...

Agile Intel Core i5-3337U processor. Trim, attractive chassis. Responsive touch screen. Great battery life. Features Intel's Wi-Di technology

Cramped 128GB SSD. Only one USB 3.0 port. Keyboard flexes and yields shallow keystrokes

Although the Toshiba Satellite U845t-S4165 ($749.99 list) appears to be the latest entrant in an increasingly crowded field—Windows 8-equipped ultrabooks with touch screens, that is—its agile new Intel Core i5-3337U processor sets it apart from most of...

Toshiba Satellite U845t

There's a reasonable chance you'll end up hearing about the Toshiba Satellite U845T on a semiregular basis from us. That's because, at $799 for a 14-inch laptop that's ultrabook-thin, with a touch screen, Intel Core i5 processor, and 128GB solid-state...

The Toshiba Satellite U845T is thin, with a decent brushed-aluminum body, a 128GB SSD, and better performance and battery life than the competition.

The keyboard has squeezed-down keys, a small spacebar, and some flex under heavy typing. The low screen resolution feels dated in a midsize laptop.

While it's not going to dazzle anyone, the Toshiba Satellite U845T is a great example of exactly how much laptop $799 should buy in 2013.

Toshiba Satellite U845t Review

At CES 2013 Toshiba had … not a lot to show. Like many other laptop manufacturers, the company had un-wrapped its newest models alongside the debut of Windows 8. Toshiba did, however, promise to add touch to the Satellite U845, an Ultrabook that we...

Elegant exterior ; Competitive battery life ; Excellent processor and storage performance ; Great value

Terrible keyboard ; Poor display quality

With just a few changes, Toshiba has turned an adequate also-ran into a clear winner.

Toshiba Satellite U845W review: an Ultrabook with a screen size all its own

More Info Toshiba outs Satellite U845W Ultrabook with 14.4-inch, 21:9 display (updated: $999 and up in the US) The Ultrabooks of Computex 2012

Powerful speakers ; Attractive design ; Decent battery life for a 14-inch laptop

Uncomfortable keyboard ; Flaky trackpad ; Display not compatible with most media

The U845W Ultrabook is the first laptop with a 21:9 display, but ultimately its odd, outsized dimensions are more of a nuisance than a boon.

Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130

The keyboard doesn't have the island-style keys of a chiclet keyboard, but creates a similar feel with specially molded keys. The C655D-S5130 also has a numeric pad that is shifted a quarter-inch down so that the numeric pad doesn't line up with the...

Low price. Good design. A 720p screen. DVD SuperMulti drive. Decent battery life

Weak processor. Dinky hard drive. Only two USB ports

The Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130 laptop has all the limitations of a netbook, like weak processing power and few connectivity ports for peripherals, without the benefits of a netbook's portability and all-day battery life.
