Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM

The Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM ($199.99 direct) lens is one of the smallest you'll find for Canon cameras. Its pancake design barely juts out from a camera when mounted. It can be used on full-frame and APS-C D-SLRs, and provides smooth autofocus for...

Extremely compact. Very sharp. Minimal distortion. Inexpensive. STM focus motor

Focus-by-wire design. Modest f/2.8 aperture

The Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM barely juts out from your camera, but is capable of capturing some impressive images.

Canon EF 40mm STM f/2.8 Lens Review Posted

I actually went out and bought one of these today. I did try it out in the store first, and at $200 it was really hard to think of a reason not to buy it. The only defect I see wide open is vignetting. Edge to edge sharpness is very good. Focus speed...

Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM

We took Canon's new 40mm to the Norfolk coast, to find out whether this low-profile budget lens could change the way we take photos.

You might be wondering why you wouldn’t choose Canon’s famously good-value 50mm f/1.8 lens. At around £85 it’s certainly cheap, but having owned one for a couple of years, we can honestly say that it’s not got the quality or sharpness of the 40mm. It’s...

Great low price addition

Keep it on my backup camera under the back seat of my car so I always have a camera no matter what. Is small, but image quality is very good. Better to have a decent image than none at all. Not a substitute for a pro lens but way better than having no...

Nice addition for a Photog Noobie

This is a great lens for a noobie\/beginner! It\'s relatively inexpensive and it\'s upgrade proof. If and when I decide to upgrade to a new Canon camera body I don\'t have to worry that this lens will not be compatible.

40mm, nice addition to the Canon line

This is a lovely, light lens excellent for general use. I can use it on both my full frame and crop frame cameras. Very good, unobstrusive street lens. Auto focus is fairly quick and quiet. Although I normally use a macro lens, this lens can be...

Awesome lens

This lens makes me bring my camera on a day to day basis around the city. It\'s so light and the images are superb.

it\'s a steal

Buy it. The 50mm 1.8 is cheaper BUT you have to crank up the aperture to 2.8 to get equal sharpness; but the build is WAY better on the 40mm as is the color. In fact color is as good as my 24-105mm.

Good lightweight prime lens

This is a fun lightweight lens to carry around. I have been using it exclusively on my Cannon 5DM2 for the past few days and am enjoying how light it makes the camera (I also stopped using the battery grip). The autofocus works well most of the time...
