Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS II USM Lens

The Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS II USM Lens is expected to be available in 2011. A Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS II USM Lens review is planned upon availability of this lens

Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS USM Lens

The Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS USM Lens is Canon's longest, almost heaviest (the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens is 10g heavier) and most expensive EF lens. It has the reach needed for - and is commonly used for - bird photography, small and distant...

The Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS USM Lens' Focus Preset feature allows a specific focus distance to be programmed into the lens. Pressing the Focus Preset button quickly sets focus to the pre-programmed distance. You might want to use this feature if you...

Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS Lens Review

How can one justify a $10,000 lens that is too heavy to carry most places?

Black friend? Panthers don't travel with friends, I thought. Some careful study through the viewfinder revealed that a pair of Golden Retriever-sized dogs, one tan and one black, companionably ambling back to their homestead, which had presumably been...

Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS USM review by Badmono

I'm slightly dis-appointed with this lens, the slow focussing takes a lot of getting use to, and the slow F4 Aperture doesn't do the lens any favours either.

Canon listened to those of us who wanted improvements over the S5IS. Pointing device are well-placed and easy to use. Noise level in deep shadows and large areas of same color is hugely reduced, although this is an area that could use continuous...

Quality and sharpness of the Canon EF Lens. That image stabalizer has allowed me to shoot in lower light situations than with my old lenses. I have wanted this lens since it originally came out and finally purchased it a few months ago. There are only...

Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS USM

Do consider the fact that I have been a Canon contract photographer since 1995. But know that my comments above are totally honest and unbiased.

The world's premiere super telephoto lens. Delivers sharp images with 1.4X, 2X and even stacked TCs. Have made sharp images at 1200mm at 1/45th second and at 1/125 second with two 2x TCS! Focuses fast enough with 2X to photograph large birds in flight.

Most units do not rotate smoothly in the tripod collar when the lens is mounted.

Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS USM

Outstanding lens. I can get shots at 1200mm at low shutter speeds (down to 1/60sec) on still subjects that required all sorts of stabilizer bars on the old 600mm to keep it steady. Optically I believe it to be slightly better than the old 600mm when I...

Can't fault it. Great optics up to 1200mm and low (down to 1/60 sec) shutter speeds with high hit rate on sharpness. IS works great at 1200mm.

My arms when hand held!

Product Specifications

This lens is ideal for sports and wildlife photography. The newly designed optical system has one fluorite element and two UD-glass elements to obtain high resolution and high contrast. Also, the minimum focusing distance was reduced to 18 ft. (5.5m). Extender EF 2x II can be attached to increase the focal length to 1200mm while retaining AF (at the center focusing point with the EOS-1v and EOS-3).
