Lens Review: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Canon's latest workhorse zoom lens for professionals is a real thoroughbred.

Improved Optical Image Stabilizer lets you hand-hold lens at slower shutter speeds while getting sharp results; excellent sharpness overall; fluorite and UD glass elements nearly eliminate chromatic aberrations; fast and quiet autofocus; wider focus...

Previous lens is still a very solid option; heavy; expensive

If there’s anything I can say against buying the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM it’s that there’s a reason the previous lens was in Canon’s line-up for so long. The older 70-200mm f/2.8 is an excellent piece of glass and the type of workhorse that’s hard...

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens: A variety of switches on the barrel allow for range delimiting, AF/MF operation, up to 4-stop image stabilization and IS mode selection. Perhaps the most versatile of all moderate tele zoom focal lengths, the 70-200mm or...

Fantastic

This lens is Fantastic, has a fast autofocus because of the f2.8, i had the 70-200mm f4, which was super fast but this one performs much better. The built quality is fantastic, i would recommend this lens to all canon eos users who want to put Telefoto...

fast, built like a tank, quiet, smart

heavy, pricey

Good Lens

the lens had a fast auto-focus, because of the f2,8 surely it won't need flash for indoor use. But i think it is to heavy.

Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images

Overall a great lens

This is the second of this lens I've owned. Personally I find while the IS version may be sharper in places, the non-IS is sharper overall throughout the zoom range. I sold my original to upgrade to the IS and wasn't pleased with sharpness, so sold it...

Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, sharp images

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

It was time to move up from my 70-200 F4L and the older f2.8 version's were not an option due to their week performance at f2.8 so I bit the bullet. So far this lens almost stays permanently on my 5D MKII and it has earned it's money back several times...

Very very sharp, Too sharp actually at times ; weather sealing ; nice new locking hood design ; Improved IS over older versions, can really hand hold to 3 real stops under ; 3D like rendering of subjects in circle of confusion ( Almost Pentax limited...

PRICE ; I don't know of Pentax patented it but a hood window to adjust polarizing filters or similar would be nice ; Strange bokeh, it's a bit harsh with back ground high lights and can make some hard yet still round halos. I'm comparing the bokeh to...

Over Priced

I sold mine and bought EF 200mm f2.8 prime. It was too heavy for me to carry around. Normally needs a tripod when you shoot at 200mm. That's the same as the prime but the prime is much lighter. IQ is excellent. As far as sharpness you might get almost...

Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, sharp images, excellent image quality with nice bokeh

expensive, heavy

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

I have had and used this lens for around a year now.I am disappointed in the sharpness of the images it produces. And from other reviews,it seems like other photographers have the same problem. You HAVE to use a tripod or flash to get a decent sharp...

Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality
